Review summary

MSC is just different than the other cruise lines. If you're use to the other cruise lines you'll be disappointed in the service you'll receive and other areas that make cruising special. MSC has a great price as we paid less for a suite on their ship than what we would usually pay for a regular balcony cabin on the others but after sailing MSC we feel it's worth paying the extra for what you receive on the other main cruise lines. We won't be sailing on MSC again.

Embarkation

The ship was late getting into port so we had to stand in line for 3 hours to get on the ship. No text or email was sent explaining what was occurring during the entire process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
MDR and buffet was nothing special with most of the food being very bland. It took 45 minutes to take our order in the MDR and the food was cold. The specialty restaurants were ok. Not enough staff working the bars so it took a long time to get a drink.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The on board activities were ok.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
My granddaughter seemed to enjoy the kid's club.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
For the most part the staff was nice but there was a communication issue as most of the staff didn't seem to speak or understand the English language well.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was beautiful but the layout of the decks seemed confusing to navigate.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We did like the cabin very much as it was roomy, especially the bathroom. It had a wrap around balcony we especially liked.

Ship tip

If you're use to the other main stay cruise companies like Carnival or Royal Caribbean MSC will seem different and at times frustrating. I suggest staying with the companies you know and like.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
Always a great port to go out of.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

1 out of 5
The island was pretty but we had issues. We rented a cabana and when we arrived no one could tell us its location or even bothered to show us where it was located. The same experience on other cruise lines is they will escort you to your cabana and ask if there is anything you need so I was very surprised in how they handle the rentals. Once we finally did find the cabana after walking around for a long time we had to evict trespassers who were in it. The furniture in the cabana was worn broken and dirty.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico Did not visit port

Stayed on the ship. We've been there several times and decided to stay onboard.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
We've been there several times and always love Cozumel. We went to a private beach club that wasn't an excursion from the ship.

Disembarkation

Once our number was called to depart it took 20 minutes to get to the parking garage.
