Review summary

Most unfriendly staffs compare to other cruise lines. Didn’t feel welcome onboard, felt rushed to go dining, to the shows and get off the ship. Can be more considerate of their customers!

Embarkation

3 out of 5
It was okay getting on the ship, but getting off the ship felt being rushed. Even though our scheduled time to get off was 9:45, they rushed us get get out of the room by 7:30am, and closed the buffet at 9:00, so people just had all the luggages in the buffet and then crowded the 5th deck waiting around to wait for the departure time. Very inconsiderate of their customers!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
It wasn’t too many varieties in the restaurants and buffet. The buffet in other cruise lines usually have stations to cater for omelets and pasta which wasn’t an option on MSC

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Not much activities on the ship to do, and they close the pool and gym at 10:00 and even earlier on the last night of the cruise

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The dancers and performers were good but when you have to see the same group of people perform 6 out of 7 nights, it became kind of boring!

Children's Programs

2 out of 5
Not much activities for the kids to do that are free, so always long line

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
I have been on other cruise lines before cruising with MSC (Carnival, Disney, Norwegian), MSC has the most unfriendly staffs. 90% of the staffs were grumpy and rude, not sure why, the first night at the restaurant we were treated so poorly and my husband requested to change restaurant and don’t wait to be served by the same waitress again. After switching to Panorama restaurant, our servers, Sastra and Gregory Mang’enge, were great! Our room cleaning people were also nice and friendly, did a great job on keep the room clean and tidy! Probably the nicest and most friendly staffs on the entire cruise and made us feel welcome onboard! The rest, not so much!

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The ship looks nice and clean overall, just that they don’t regulate e-cigarettes, I can smell it in most of the common areas, pools, theaters, shops areas, which is not good around kids.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was nice and clean, staffs were very friendly. Just that I didn’t expect they don’t offer hair conditioner and body lotion in the room, so had to spend money to buy from their shop.

Ship tip

Bring hair conditioner, expect to be rushed to get you off the ship, and if you are late for more than 15 minutes to the restaurant, they won’t let you in. Reserve the spot to the shows in their apps ahead of time and be there 5 minutes before the show, otherwise, you may lose your spot! And be aware that restaurants only open for lunch from 12-1

Ports of call

Brooklyn, New York

3 out of 5
It was a nice location, less traffic compared to Manhattan

Miami, Florida

4 out of 5
Love Miami, just not walking distance from the port, thank god for Uber!

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Love their private beach, too bad we were delayed 4 hours before we can get off, wish we can spend more time on the island.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
It was nice, walking distance to the shopping areas

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Felt very rushed, even though our scheduled time to get off was 9:44, we had to leave the room by 7:30, brought all the luggages with us to the buffet, but then they kicked everyone out of the buffet at 9:00, so everyone just gather on deck 5 to wait for their scheduled time. MSC can be more considerate of their customers and be more accommodating!

If you decide to try MSC again, I would suggest cruising on one of their smaller ships. It's definitely not the same. You end up knowing the passengers and the staff. I personally don't like their big ships and the lack of interaction with their guests. I have a cruise coming up out of Brooklyn in a few weeks and I expect it to be the same as you describe unfortunately.
