Our previous cruises were all in the Caribbean so we were surprised how cold this trip was. From sail away in LA to the cold Pacific waters we really didn’t plan this trip well. We are used to spending our days on the lido listening to steel drum bands setting the mood, instead we had to wear windbreakers and watch a video of a Hall & Oats concert… seriously. The colder weather itinerary forces more people inside so there should be more live entertainment throughout this beautiful ship. Again, there was no lack of talent, just lack of options. We are in our 50’s but at times we felt like we were in Heaven’s waiting room. The medallion itself worked well, however the app was frustrating at times.. especially trying to book reservations. We are thankful that we can travel, especially how the world is crazy right now. We made memories and that is what traveling is all about.
Embarkation

Showed up at our assigned time at 11:00 and had to wait about 30 minutes. Not a big deal. Having everything ready in app makes it easier.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food in MDR was mediocre at best and the service was slowwww. 2 hours, 3 different times. What made it worse were the tables that arrived after us and finished before us.. forced us to eat at the specialty restaurants which provided both better service and food. Makes me wonder if it’s all planned that way. Alfredo’s was very good. 1 star for MDR, 5 stars for everywhere else.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Seems like a long list of things to do in the Patter but in actuality not really. Due to the cold weather the outside pool is useless.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
By far our biggest disappointment. This was my 4th Princess cruise and you can tell that they are still recovering from the pandemic. Is it too much to ask to have live music throughout the day (other than a violinist)? Don’t get me wrong, all the entertainers were very talented, just not enough to choose from. The two musical shows in the main theater were performed very well but lacked creativity. I have to say that the comedian was very good. This was the first time in 8 cruises that I was actually bored. 5 stars for talent, 1 star for limited options.
Service and Staff

Staff was great everywhere.
Ship Quality

Beautiful ship. Well maintained and super clean. Love the layout but puzzled by the covered pool in the Hollywood pool deck (and why that name??). I miss the aft pool area.
Cabin / Stateroom

Nice clean room, plenty of room for two people except that bathroom! I’ve never been in such a small bathroom on a cruise ship before. The balcony is more like a shelf but due to the cold weather it wasn’t used. Bed and pillows were very comfortable, slept great!
Did the speedboat and beach excursion. Well done, had a really good time. Afterwards we went to the beautiful Cathedral and then hiked the lighthouse hill. Had a great day.
Went to las caletas. Excursion started late waiting for local vacationers to get on the boat. Resort was very nice. Expected the water to be warmer on the west side of Mexico. Arrived back to the ship an hour late. Luckily it was a Princess excursion and the ship was still there!
Due to the ocean current patterns, the warm season in the Mexican Riviera goes into October when it is colder up north, but stays cooler later in the spring. The late spring is due partly to the cold currents from up north and the pulling of the cold water up from the depths. In the summer and fall the currents change resulting in warmer weather (from an oceanography class taken in the ‘70’s)
