Liberty of the seas over all experiance by jynjur

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Over all I felt this ship and cruise was wonderful. This was our first cruise and we weren't sure what to expect. The promenade was beautiful and the ship was large enough that we still didn't get to see it all in one day. The shore excursions through royal Caribbean were a little lack luster. Very confusing and disorganized, but we still managed to get there and back in time. Overall this ship and cruise was everything we expected and more. We will definitely be cruising again through royal Caribbean.

Amazing experience! by jh126197

Yes, I would recommend this cruise to others.  Everything was 1st class.  The food was excellent, the service all throughout the ship was fabulous.  We spent a lot of time at the adult pool and thought music should be playing on that side as well.  We also thought that the music diversity wasn't what we expected.  We like to dance and would have liked something other than club music or Latin music.

Love Sailing! by ZSTKBRKR

We enjoyed our 7 night RC vacation. The ship was clean, staff very friendly and the food was O.K. We liked the dining room with the three levels and we always do the "any time" dining so it is convenient. The lines were never too bad to get a table and you can make reservations if you choose to. Breakfast was better in the buffet because you have more choices and the food is warmer. We didn't care for the mushy tasteless hash browns in the dining room but in the buffet they had crispy ones which are much better. They didn't charge a corking fee for the two bottles of wine I brought with me, which I thought was nice. They even stored it with our room number so we could finish the following night. BTW I did see that people were getting on the ship with their bottled water and soda drinks, wish I had known! They do allow two bottles of wine, Drinks are ULTRA expensive...beer $8.50 and mixed drinks up to $15.00. They really push the beverage and specialty restaurants. Chops was not good as they are cooking in Duck Fat not butter. The dining room was equal...not sure I would do the specialty dining at all. The beverage package is worth it if you are drinking at least 6 or more drinks per day. Don't forget you are off the ship for three days so we didn't take it and saved a lot of $$$ just buying the drinks.

The Buffet gets tricky trying to dodge the people in the lines and aisles but we figured it was worth it for the selections. They a really did a good job managing the buffet on this cruise. The food trays were quickly filled and they were  always warm. The eggs made to order were great and the lines were not too long. The help staff in the dining room would come around and offer juices, coffee and drinks. They seemed to want to help! The one thing we missed was the hot dogs and hamburgers by the pool. Almost every cruise I have gone on has some food by the pool...so we missed the burgers being grilled outside. Some cruises even have pizza outside and sandwiches but RC does not. The hamburgers are a disappointment as they are served from a tray inside  the buffet. Taste is NOT the same. They do have ice cream served by the kiddie pool in the afternoon which is nice. The lobster night is good. Remember you can make it surf and turf by asking the waiter and you can send anything back that is not to your liking and they will happily get you something else. You can get two entrees if you ask...they are very accommodating in the dining room.

Sailing out of Galveston limits your destinations. After many many cruises out of Galveston ...we have seen all the ports. We liked Honduras the best. We booked a private tour with Cleve and he is a one man show! Takes you all over the island , stopping where ever you want to go, in his 12 passenger van. If you have a group or go as a couple , he is your man! Fun and intelligent with good energy that could be bottled and sold for big bucks!

If you go to Costa Maya get on the shuttle and go to the beach. Go to the second stop on the shuttle where they have the free palapas and give you the free margarita. Yes they are trying to refine the place but we had a GREAT time listing to live music, drinking beer and getting massages. $20. for a great massage on the beach. Can you beat that? It is so Mexico and we had fun.

Cozumel was nice too. We went to Mr. Sanchez's Beach Club about 15 minutes from the pier by Taxi. Its is a very nice resort with a great pool, pool bar and beach is clean and fun for kids too. Snorkeling is available as are the Kayaks. They have an all inclusive price of $59. for food and drinks which we did. The service was great.

Our room on the RC Legend was small, the bathroom very small but pretty typical of sailing on a cruise. Our aft view was amazing and the balcony on floor 7 and 8 are worth booking as they are twice the size and view both aft and side. We had cabin 708 and I HIGHLY recommend it if you do not mind walking. VERY  quiet  and the balcony is as private as it gets. Teo chaise lounges and two chairs and a small table. Perfect balcony and best yet!

All in all....we enjoyed. Happy

I do not recommend anybody to book with this cruise line. Very disorganized disembarkation, very uncomfortable room, ship never left or arrived on schedule.

Balcony or Bust by amosgraves

The balcony and complimentary and very well organized kids camp was worth the trip alone. First, research the class of ships and the specific ship to see if it meets your expectations. We wanted a kid friendly ship that didn't feel like people were stacked on top of one another, and Liberty of the Seas didn't disappoint. The ability to walk onto a balcony was priceless and I'll never do without one! Bring your allotted two bottles of wine. Don't book expensive excursions through the ship. Buy through or wait until you get there. There is plenty to drink without buying the drink packages, unless you want to drink a ton of alcohol. I bought a 15 specialty coffee pass and used it, but the free coffee was decent and plentiful, so not sure I'd buy another pass. We ordered a few pina coladas and otherwise drank our wine -way cheaper than drink packages. The only thing I didn't like was all of the up-selling attempts. That was annoying. The food was inconsistent, and should be better in the MDR for what you pay. Two nights were really good, two nights were bad, and two nights were ehh. The one night we ate filets at chop grill, which costs extra, was awesome. We won't be multiple cruise people (maybe one more to Alaska), but it's worth doing every 5-10 years.

Great Experience for All by DannyCruiser

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Family (older children)

Can say enough about how great this cruise was. The time together as a family (2 parents, 2 adult children, 2 grandchildren (12 & 4), all enjoyed different aspects of the cruise. We were able to spend time together, but also time apart, to each have time to do what they wanted to do and enoyed our evening meal time. GREAT!

Another "Just to cruise" in the books..... by cruznuts

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

We've sailed this ship once before, 2 years ago, similar (though not the same) itinerary, so we knew pretty much what to expect. Some surprises, though not many, some pleasant, some not so much. We're avid cruisers (28 over the last 30 years) and are not loyal to any specific brand. We've cruised enough to have fairly decent loyalty points with most popular cruise lines, which, in my opinion, at least gives us a vantage point from which to be objective as well as fair. Here goes..... Embarkation was much as we expected, though unexpectedly as soon as we reached the 2nd level in the terminal, we immediately heard the boarding call for "platinum" and above cruisers, which included us. A short but uncomfortable wait on the open deck necessitated by a (according to what we heard...you know how shipboard rumors are!) software glitch resulted in a sweaty good time, but fortunately didn't last much over 20 minutes. Galveston handles their current ship volume fairly well, though if the rumors are true about an Oasis-class ship coming here, I shudder to think what embarkation-debarkation days will be like if you add another 2k people to the mix The first 2 days were sea days, which we enjoy most, having as our reason to cruise relaxation as opposed to crowds, lines, and the hustle usually associated with holidays. We frequented the Solarium adults-only area, and found it quiet and enjoyable. We happen to enjoy playing trivia, and the Schooner's staff were incredible, but Schooner's seems like an awfully small venue to hold trivia contests, people always seemed to be standing around with the number of people participating vs the number of available seats. I would suggest possibly a different venue for trivia games, especially on sea days. We normally chose an inside room, as claustrophobia associated therewith doesn't bother us. We've had balconies, and prefer the lower cost and more trips rather than spend 3 cruises worth on a suite. Ours was great, much as expected, plenty of storage, everything worked, and was expertly maintained and cared for. We can't say enough good things about our room steward, waiter and asst. waiter in the Boticelli Dining Room, all 3 were awesome. Our waiter (who will remain nameless) did remind us twice about a hopefully-favorable mention on our post-cruise review, which as I understand it is against RCCL rules, but he did great, and I would rather tell a small lie than get him in trouble. So what if they ask for a favorable mention, they earned it! Ship seems smaller than it is, though the Royal Promenade was crowded with the watch, T-shirt, liquor, and other displays in the center during peak times. The Hoof and Claw was a nice place to sit, have a cocktail, play cards, and people watch, as well as listen to different musicians and their offerings. We normally don't care for the bigger ships, but Liberty seems to do it right. I've heard others comment that their favorite RCCL ship classes are Radiance and Freedom, and in this I would have to concur. Not even slightly interested in Oasis class. The ships get bigger, but the ports don't. Entertainment was good, not the best we've seen, but on the weekly cruises it rarely is compared to longer cruises with more sea days. We enjoyed Landry, the comedian, both his g-rated show as well as his adults-only offering. We enjoyed the different musicians as well, and here would like to add a special comment. Unlike some cruise lines, RCCL doesn't apparently feel the need to test their guests' capacity for annoying noise endurance during live entertainment, and kept the volumes reasonable, and for that deserves enormous recognition! Our last cruise was on a competitor, and both of us were very uncomfortable with the excessive volume at the music venues. The food in the Windjammer was substandard to what we remember on our first Liberty cruise, though to be fair I felt the dining room fare was at least as good if not better. Pizza in Sorrento's was awesome! We didn't try any specialty dining on Liberty, but heard nothing but good things from our shipmates. Overall I'd give it a solid 4 stars. Service was as good as you could ask for, every crewperson you met had a smile and a kind word, reflecting normal RCCL standards. We only did one shore excursion, on Roatan (again, we've visited all 3 ports numerous times) and it was much as expected; not great, but good. It's not the cruise line's fault there weren't many fish to see. Our focus, at least for this trip, was on the cruise more so than the destinations. Debarkation was quick and easy, we do the self-assist and carry our own luggage. We live approximately 2 hours from Galveston, and were home by 10:30 am. Given the amount of traffic on relatively-small Galveston island with 2 large ships loading/unloading, it was remarkably painless. I would sail LIberty again in a heartbeat! Perfect? No, but what is? Enjoyable, relaxing, great for a carefree week to recharge before going back to work? Undoubtedly! Royal Caribbean does it right with LIberty of the Seas, I wish all our fellow cruise fanatics enjoy their week of fantasy as much as we did ours!

Great fun but cost cutting apparent by tonygno

Royal Caribbean still provides a great value in cruising.  Ship was newly refurbished and it showed.  Service, especially cabin attendant, was uniformly excellent.  Great food at specialty restaurants.  Main dining room showed signs of cost cutting with lobsters the size of large shrimp and tiny scallops. Entertainment choices were limited to comedians and only two production shows ("Saturday Night Fever" was excellent), again signs of cost cutting.  We noticed more hawking of packages than previous cruises, to the point of distraction.
