Review summary

Had an enjoyable time, food and accommodations were good, and the staff was helpful and courteous. The layout of the ship can use improvement.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Pretty straight forward, though I wish a shuttle bus would have been available for the NJ Exchange Place Path Station

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was closer to a 3.5 star than a three, though they needed improvement on some dishes, e.g. the Kung Po Chicken needed improvement and some menu items were repeated over multiple days (though this can be good, if you like those items). The buffet Windjammer area, can use some expansion, as it was packed and smaller than other cruise line buffet areas that I have experienced. This may be because they included a number of specialty dining restaurants in the Windjammer area. It did not appear as these specialty restaurants were being utilized much, and it would be nice if the area were used for additional WindJammer seating and food stations.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Activities were ok. e.g. Rock Climbing, water rafting and slides, as well as the main performances at the Platinum Theatre. There is a large performance area named Studio B which cuts off the middle of the third deck, and prevents guests from going from one side of the deck to the other without having to go up to the fourth deck, walk across, and then come back down to the third deck. This is annoying, inefficient, and adds complexity and hardship to those who are not very mobile. Studio B is an Ice Skating Rink which is used for their ice skating performance, repeating twice a week, as well as for guest ice skating on select times. It seems to me that this large event space is under utilized and I'm wondering if the space could be put to better use.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment was ok, but during the evenings, they rely heavily on musicians performing at Bars. This is ok for those who like a drink and enjoy listening to the music, but there are some who do not drink alcohol, and it would be nice if other activities were available to them.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service was excellent and the staff were helpful and courteous. Our cabin's combination shampoo/soap dispenser ran out one evening, and luckily we were just able to get our showers done just when it ran out. It would have been good if the dispenser were checked daily and replenished when needed. Once reported, it was promptly filled up the next day. This was a small item, compared to the outstanding service we received throughout the ship, including Guest Services who were very helpful and accommodating.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship's common areas were clean and maintained. A suggestion would be to increase the Windjammer seating and food station area, as it was crowded. As per the layout, having the large performance area of Studio B taking up the entirely of the middle of the third deck, prevents guests from walking from one end of the third deck, to the other end of the third deck, without going up to the 4th floor, walking across, and then coming back down to the third deck.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was comfortable, a decent size, and clean.

Ship tip

If you will be eating at the Windjammer butter, it's less crowded early or late. If your cabin is on the third deck, you may be inconvenienced getting to your cabin since Studio B in in the middle of the third deck and prevents guests from walking from one end of the ship to the other on the third deck. Make sure to take the elevators or stairs that go to the area of the third deck were your cabin is located, else you will need to go up to the 4th deck, across, and back down again.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Very quick, though would be helpful if shuttle bus transportation to the NJ Path Train were provided. Cab and ride share during peak disembarkation periods are expensive. We would up taking a shared van service to the light rail train station which dropped us off at the Exchange Place Path Train Station. It would have been helpful if either the Cruise Line(s) or Port offered a shuttle bus service to the path train.
