December Escape by albonn2016cruise

Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our specialty dining at Giovanni's was exceptional with

five star effort by the kitchen and wait staff.

Our main seating at Michelangelo provided pleasant

company with two other couples while experiencing

nightly dinners that were consistently enjoyable.

Each meal provided choices that would certainly

appeal to every diner.

We purchased the Beverage Package which we would

recommend to other cruisers.

We found a favorite libation station on deck 11 where the

bartender, Michael, was both professional and entertaining.

We just might determine his assigned ship next time we

sail on Royal Caribbean and book accordingly.

The nightly Theatre shows were 1st class without exception.

We are so glad we attended this entertainment activity.

We would be remiss if we didn't specifically provide kudos

to the housekeeping staff whose efforts guaranteed that

we returned to our perfectly made up stateroom that included

a surprise towel animal that welcomed us each night.

Frequent Cruisers Comments by Cruiser98901292

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Yes, we would recommend this cruise.  We would hope that Royal maintains past high dining room standards, rather than pushing their specialty restaurants.   As frequent cruisers, we would like to see

more varied production shows.

Easy to leave out of Galveston! Pretty ship! by hrachaelh74

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the check in line to get through security was a horrendous 2 hour wait! No chairs to sit and wait for your group to be called like Disney! Food was good but the desserts sucked. Drink package was totally worth it but only if you buy it early online! We had a rat in our room one night and they didn't even come check till the next day and the only compensation we got was 15% off our room charges. The kids were allowed to run wild till 1:00 am and they'd run up and down the halls knocking on doors and running away! The ports were great and I loved the Solarium!

Great food and service. Great entertainment with exception of jazz show, horrible with very little participation by cruisers. Fantastic Latino and country bands. Ice show, fantastic. Comedians good, James Stephens superior, all non vulgar.

Great Cruise, 1st time Royal by mattnmia

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The overall cruise was fantastic.  The ship food started out a little sub-par but the dining room dinners were great the last 5 days of the cruise.  Most of the ship staff were polite, pleasant and helpful but too many ship staff didn't seem very enthusiastic. Too many up-charges for items that should have been included. The shopping was great (if you're into that) but the Promenade had too few choices for snacking other than pizza and horrible desserts.  Overall, the ship and shore were great plus!!

Lame Liberty of the Seas by MsTM

Gaming was a joke!!!

The slot machines in the Casino were outdated.  No current machines as seen in land based casinos..  RCCL  must have picked up every machine that popular land based Casino threw out or retired.....

As for the Raffle Games and/or other Prize giveaways,  they encouraged you to spend money throughout the cruise for a chance to win a huge cash prize.  Turns out this was very deceptive and extremely laughable.  RCCL claimed the possible top prizes would be cash money but at the Raffle they gave the winner a very "small" bucket of souvenirs with the RCCL logos on them....like a key chain, a lanyard, a t-shirt.... etc.....  It was embarrassing.

The entertainment and shows were lacking or not very good.  The Headliner was good but there was not a lot of other options. They seem to cater to an older crowd, like 65yrs and above (retirees).   And on some days there was nothing interesting going on - definitely nothing for the 30 - 50 age range.   The music played on the ship was outdated!  I didn't hear any current top 50 songs.

The quality of the onboard internet was poor, going in and out of coverage.  For the price they charge you, this is really unacceptable.

Also, I didn't find the crew as friendly as in past cruising.  I think it has something to do with required gratuity payments.  They have no incentive to go above and beyond or provide premier customer service.

On a positive note, getting off the ship at the end was a very smooth process. By then I was ready to get off.

Will try another cruise line after 30 plus with RCC by vwood71749

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My first cruise was the maiden voyage of Sovereign of the Seas for my honeymoon with my now deceased husband. It ushered in a life long love of cruising for my family. Having only strayed once from the Royal Caribbean brand, we have been loyal customers to RCC.

Over the last 30 years the cruising industry has changed considerably. While once catering and pampering passengers with luxury, today’s passengers are bombarded with hawkers promoting the latest deal from RCC. I have had enough. For the first time ever, I could not wait to get back home and off the RCC Liberty of the Seas cruise ship. I will try to summarize and be brief in my explanation.

The Liberty is a lovely ship. The room was standard to average. I have cruised all categories and obviously the best experiences are in the upper categories. But occasionally it is necessary to cruise on a budget. As with my first now deceased husband, my 2nd and present husband also cruised on our honeymoon sailing on the Navigator in 2014. It was still a wonderful cruise.  Our cruise in March 2015 out of New Orleans, had some issues. Our cruise in April of 2016 was still fun but I am starting to  fall out of love with RCC. My recent and last cruise with RCC was the Liberty out of Galveston. My love affair with RCC is officially over.

My husband and I were actually bored during sea days. Where once there were so many options to entertain ourselves, we could literally find nothing to do without opening our wallet. The entertainment we did find was dull, boring or very unprofessional. We had a great cruise director, very enthusiastic. He was very convincing about directing us to all the forms of entertainment but the entertainment itself was quite lack luster. Most of the things he recommended incurred additional charges. My husband grew weary of being bombarded with the next great sale, a pep talk leading to another sale or the next best deal to “save us money.” While it is understandable, the cruise lines need to make money, it has reached a point where it is no longer feasible or enjoyable to cruise if one must be nicked and dimed for every little thing. Our days consisted of being offered great spa specials, shopping and excursions talks, wine tastings, mixology demonstrations, bingos, and more sales pitches…all for a fee…..(there was a free napkin folding class)

Having many dining choices is certainly pleasing but the once $20 surcharge has reached unrealistic proportions. I am assuming the extra restaurants may not be full every night with the hawking every hour to now “Make your reservation.” EVERYWHERE! We were approached in the dining room during our meals, in the hallways, in the venues, flyers in our rooms….ENOUGH!!!!!!  Also the quality of the food in the main dining facilities has gone down. My husband and I along with six unknown table mates complained nightly about dinner. I listen to conversations among our new friends about all the issues I am outlining in this letter.

Not only the food quality has declined but so has the overall service. Having NEVER encountered a rude employee aboard a RCC ship, we encountered several on this cruise. Our table service was non existence with one waiter and one assistant. On our last cruise there were four people tending to our section. Our cabin attendant was no better as she had 20 rooms to attend. She was working constantly, but she could not keep up.

The evening entertainment was less than mediocre. The RCC singers on our first night were not even semi professional. They generated no energy with their performances. The second night performance of a Whitney Houston rendition totally lost us about fifteen minutes into the performance when the entertainer decided to use her “platform” to politicize the concert. We simply walked out, along with numerous other guests. I want to relax and be entertained on my cruise, not preached to. The third night comedian was slightly better, and the fourth night comedian was the best of all. The highly anticipated Saturday Night Live performance was the largest disappointment of all. While the set, costumes, and cast of actors were impressive, the actors rushed their lines to the point of little audience understanding and they were drowned out by the orchestra. On the positive side the Ice Show was amazing. These were truly professional performers.

Let me say again I do not want to encounter political opinions while on my cruise. If RCC is going to offer LGBT or single gatherings then they should also have couple and heterosexual gatherings. Quite frankly my husband and I would have loved to be included in a gathering  introducing like minded couples.

My heart is broken that I can no longer continue to support the RCC brand. It was a wonderful relationship but I am leaving RCC for another cruise line.

Wonderful Itinerary by dragonliby

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I love this itinerary.  Cozumel is always fun, Grand Cayman is shopping paradise and Jamaica is a gem.  The Liberty of the Seas was a nice ship, but I've decided I prefer a smaller, more intimate ship.  I prefer fewer cruisers and I don't need things like an ice skating rink and the Flowrider.  One thing I really liked about the ship was the promenade - it was nice having all the stores and services in one place.  The ship was very easy to find my way around.

Oustanding medical team and service staff by pat750

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I can't say much about the the cruise,  as I was sick for 5 out of the 7 days. Did not get to enjoy the activities or go ashore, except in Cozamal to confer with a doctor at the hospital there. But one thing I would congratulate RCC is your medical team. They are great, Dr. Ace , nurse Jane, Joyce and the other staff saved my life. The doctor was extremely through and caring. I learned things about my illness I didn't know and the explained it to me in more detail than I ever received from my Primary care doctor in the states.

Also, my room service person was sweet and very accomodating. The dinner staff was also very pleasant.

Although I didn't get to see or do any of the activities it probably was I would recommend this cruise.  The worse thing I have to say is that the cabins are out dated and the mattress are very uncomfortable and lumpy.

Luggage left for 7days at the port in galveston by devorariley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My roommate philomena riley luggage was left. It wasn't until Thursday when we were told it wasn't on the ship. She and her daughter had to buy more clothes, and toiletries. All the guest services did was put 50$ on her sea pass card. She wasn't  asked if she needed anything by anyone from the ship. A miserable trip for a 75 disabled women without any of her belongings. We're thinking about seeking legal action. Her luggage  still had her tags on it ,so how was it forgotten!??? She's still upset about it.

Service by ReneeE1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Favorite part of the cruise was the entertainment and connecting with new people throughout the cruise.  Our stateroom attendant was a pleasure and did an exceptional job keeping our stateroom clean and freshened.   The customer service desk personnel were courteous and friendly.  One exceptional service we did receive is an attendant reopened a store for us because my husband need swimming trucks for our excursion the next morning.  I thought that was a really nice thing to do.

The one thing that I was not please with was the dining room attendant (Katie) in Johnny Rockets.  The previous evening we were told that we were eligible for a BYGOF float only to find out on the next day when we went to redeem the free float is was not for a float but milkshake or malt.  When we were told this we said okay it was just a miscommunication and we will just go ahead and purchase the float.  Katie wanted to know who told us that and we could not remember the staff person's name and we told her that is was not a big deal and she had an attitude with us saying, "it may not be a big deal to you but it is to me." well I'm the customer and I took offense to her speaking to us in that manner.  This was reported to the customer service desk and they assured us it would be handled.  Despite this experience the cruise was still a pleasure and I would  definitely recommend Royal Caribbean to my friends an family.

Partially satisfied cruiser by fjl123456

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We have cruised with 2 other lines, so we had the ability to compare.  Royal Caribbean is supposed to be good cruise company but some of their staff needs attitude improvement, I felt like they take the customers for granted.  No smiles, acting like they do not really want to be there.  I attempted to book my next cruise on aboard but when I tried, the person that assisted me, no name given, but she was a female, when I told her what I wanted, she told me a price that was higher than if I would use the internet, when I told her that, she brushed me off, and just told me to than use the internet, and I left,  Most of the shows where really good with the exception of the first day,  it was really boring, to listen 5 people sing out of tune,  Used the main dinner only once, the staff was really slow to serve us, I am not used to sit for 2 hours for a meal.  So we used the windjammer restaurant most of the time.  The burgers were undercooked most of the time, colorless and tastless.  All of the breads were cold.  The interior cabin was nice and clean, the attendant Liliana from Ecuador did a real good job to take care of our needs.  We really enjoyed the pared and the singing on the street with the large Christmas tree.

If you are the type of cruiser that does not make reservations for excursions you have to be ready to be disappointed because there are not much to do on the ports, In Cozumel the ship docks away from downtown in an area that is really under construction so there are not many shops out of the tourist area.  We did walked out but there are no stores in the area, very disappointing.  Same in Jamaica,  If you walk out f the fenced area, be prepared to be attacked by a bunch of people begging you for money, including drunks, be very careful if you do it.  The cayman island was the only port were you can really walk around and see lots of stores

You have to take the good with the bad,  overall we will recommend this cruise.

An ok cruise by frankita

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My favorite part of this cruise was the food and entertainment. As for overall ship, not much to do. There's not enough nightclubs.in fact only one inside lounge (Oliver twist) and the star lounge for comedy. A huge ship with nothing to do. And very snobbish workers.

Super Winter Cruise by OldFolksCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were surprised with Liberty of the Seas. It was the best RCCL we have been on which includes Allure. The food and entertainment was great.  The complete staff we came in contact with was the best.  We went out of Galveston because of convenience but we will probably try to do this same ship again in spring with a different itinerary.

Liberty of The Sea Cruise by eldonwilliams

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had to move 3  times while on this cruise. First stateroom had a plumbing issue, and while my wife was showering the shower flooded, which run into the bathroom floor, which run over into the bedroom carpet. The bedroom carpet was soaked. We were relocated to another room on the 8th deck all the way forward in the ship, but after settling in , we realized that this part of the ship pitched, and rolled to much and both my wife and I got sick. So we were relocated the 3rd time to near mid ship toward the rear of the ship and finally after a 3 day ordeal, we were in a room with a balcony ( room 8662 ), and we were finally able to enjoy the remaining days of the cruise.

Beautiful ship poor food by jeffbullock

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my first cruise with Royal and maybe my last. I paid good money for a balcony room and I think that the money you pay should include good food. I wanted to make sure that the quality of the food just wasn't me so I went out of my way to ask others that were seated around us daily. Of the people I spoke with about the quality of the food 85% thought as I did.

I tried the dining room on three different nights to try the food there and it was better but I ended up at the Italian food restaurant, Mexican food restaurant, chops, or Johnny Rockets. which cost me more money. I thought that it was a shame that I had to spend between $90 and $130 per night extra just to get a decent meal.

The Windjammer buffet in the mornings was bad. The same thing every morning. The omelet station was good but every day the line would be different. One morning you would line up on the left side of the bar to place your order and the next day the line would be the opposite. This may sound petty but when there are 10 people in line and you move to the front of the line to order before they do, those other 10 people get angry. Can you blame them?

The Rembrandt dining staff seemed to be ready to get off the ship. The lack of attention to detail was not there. I ordered room service for breakfast one morning so we could eat and get ready to get off the ship for an excursion and the food showed up 30 minutes late and it was no were fit to eat. I have never seen anyone screw up scrambled eggs so bad in my life. I have been in the military and we used powdered eggs in a K pot and they were no where that bad. Maybe a bad experience but defiantly not a good memory.

I traveled with two other couples which one of those it was there first cruise. Each of us had weird charges to our rooms. After going to guest services the were removed but the verbiage used by guest services was not professional. We were told that they would look into it instead of being prompt and taking care of the charges immediately.

Shows:

The shows onboard the ship were good but I seem to think that bashing other competitors is un called for. I heard on several occasions " I used to work for another cruise line that rhymes with marvel and they are a poor line". After sailing on Carnival many times I cant recall them bashing Royal and after my experience on Royal I don't believe they should.

In closing I will say the ship was  nice big and beautiful, the staff overall was friendly and helpful, but the food was horrible. Before you go on your net cruise do your research and ask others about their experience.

Thanks. Jeff
