never take a cruise from Galveston, Texas by helenisyoung

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Purely robbery from the State of Texas. I blame my cruise RCCL for not telling the passengers. They were so eager to sell “duty fee alcohol” onboard, but failed to tell us about the imposed robbery tax from Texas. I was dumb founded when I was stopped by the TABC after clearing customs. I told them that I’m a Canadian and I was heading straight to the airport, showing them my boarding pass …they didn’t care. I will NEVER step foot in Texas again.

Surely, if could also have told me about this. I don't blame you, but it's a "good to know" and advise your customers.

Great Ship, OK ports by jrobinette1226

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Royal Caribbean as a company has been great! Liberty of the Seas was a fantastic ship and 99% of their staff was awesome! (a few bartenders had attitude problems). Cozumel was nice except for the extremely pushy employees at the port. Grand Cayman was AMAZING and everyone is so laid back. Falmouth wasn't good at all. Stayed in port as there were vulchers waiting outside the gates. Most people from the ship turned around as soon as they got to the gates and didn't even attempt to go outside of them. Even employees on the ship who are from Jamaica said that Falmouth had nothing and you have to go to Ocho Rios for the fun but the cabbies wanted to charge you an arm and leg to get there.

All in all it was a great trip and amazing cruise company!

Great Service and plenty to do and good dining! by cindymontana

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The staff and ship is very nice.  Good entertainment and food options.  Nice itinerary and days at sea to enjoy the ship.  Pool area is nice and the children's splash zone is large.  Great water slides and flow rider is awesome for the big kids.  Would travel again on this Cruise line and Liberty of the Seas!

Overall review by patsygbennett

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My overall review of the Liberty of the Seas was good.  No complaints on any of the employees-they were all excellent.

My advice is do not book an inside cabin on floor 2.  My room had a musty, "moldy" odor.  They supplied a fan to air out the room but did not completely eliminate the musty odor.

My biggest complaint was the tv reception- no satellite was available and no movie channels or news channels were available.

Dining room was amazing as far as service every night.

Diamond Lounge by Davel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Diamond Lounge is small and overcrowded in the evening. The Concierge  Lounge does not admit Diamond Plus on this ship. it is for Suite guests and Pinnacle members  and is large and underused so until you pay big bucks for a Suite you are not welcome even with 600+ points and in a Junior Suite. This Suite Lounge is a bad idea by RCL

Birthday Cruise by smplyflwrs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I love to cruise! I just got home from one.

I have several reason why I cruise.

It's like a floating hotel. You go to sleep in one town and wake up in another!

I don't have to worry about where I'm going to eat. There are all kinds of places to grab a bite to eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner & more snacks!

Or what I'm going to do. There are many things to choose from...Shows, Casino, games you can  participate in. Hang out in a lounge.  If you don't feel like doing anything, then laying out by the pool is a relaxing option.

My favorite part about cruising is meeting people. I have met some very interesting people that have become my friends off the ship.

Crusing is a lot of fun. I've already started planning my next one!

Liberty of the Seas 7 day cruise review by melindap623

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We highly enjoyed ourselves, we didnt get to partake in all that the ship had to offer just because it was just so big, no worries we will be back. Best cruise we have done by far. We would recommend Royal Caribbean any day.

They didn't have much to do on the days at sea and Belize wasn't as nice as I expected, but overall it was a nice trip and will probably travel with them again.

Lots to like by amiculus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Good --

1. The food was excellent in both the Main Dining Room and Windjammer Cafe/Buffet, and was in fact a highlight of the cruise.  The Windjammer offered a HUGE and varying selection of quality foods.  The MDR provided a more upscale experience with fancier foods. We quickly decided to use the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch for the wide selection and quick service, and eat dinner in the MDR.

2. We chose the cheapest inside cabin and were delighted with the comfortable king bed, beautiful furnishings in excellent condition, the more-than-adequate amount of storage available.

3. Service was friendly and helpful and generally outstanding throughout the ship -- cabin steward, waiters, etc.

4. The ship is decorated beautifully throughout and kept very clean.

5. Outstanding fitness center that is large, offers more than enough machines of various types -- treadmill, elliptical, rowing, spinning, weight training.  I used the facility most mornings and never had any trouble getting a machine.  It also offers free weights and yoga room.

6. The Captain announced on our first morning that the US Public Health Service had just completed their inspection and the ship received a rating of 100 out of 100.

7. The ship had a wonderful splash zone for kids to play in near the pools.

The Not So Good --

1. The ship offered many activities on board but I must not be a cruise person because I didn't find them appealing. We went to one show and it was just okay. We would have gone to see another show but it conflicted with an NFL playoff game.

2. I would have liked a large public space indoors with lots of windows that was not a bar, with comfortable stuffed chairs for lounging and reading.  The Library was tiny, with maybe 2 chairs and in the center of the ship with no windows.

3. Like all cruise lines these days, the emphasis is on enticing passengers to pay for extras like specialty restaurants and drink packages. The central area of the ship contains a large number of boutiques selling wares, and of course the required art auction and casino.

4. We used 3rd party shore excursions for snorkeling and they were about as expected -- meh.  I prefer to go someplace and experience it  for several days or a week, rather than bustle on and off with crowds for a thoroughly brief and superficial experience mostly with souvenir sellers.

Conclusion --

Royal Caribbean could hardly have done a better job with the most important aspects of the cruise.  I can recommend them highly, but I have learned that cruising holds little appeal for me.

I enjoyed the excitment of the events, shows and people we met.Even though the weather started out cold from Galveston it warmed up on the second day of the cruise so we spent alot of time in the hot tubs. The drinks are a little pricey but vert good. the food was excellent.

Lots of Luck by white3297

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We love cruising.

While we have been on 14 cruises with 5 different cruise companies; we are not experts by any description, but we do have a little perspective.

A little about the latest Liberty of the Seas cruise.

First; the ship appeared to be very clean with very little signs of neglect in the cleanliness department. The exception was grease on a round table in the Schooner Bar lounge that found its way onto our clothing.

Second; our cabin attendant did an exceptional job in both cleanliness and attention to detail.

Third; our wait staff in        restaurant was courteous, helpful and

Beyond these few accolades though, the cruise was a disaster.

Upon initial arrival with luggage in tow on deck 3 (I believe), we asked which direction to our cabin. We were told “There’s a map on the wall”, then dismissed.

Dragging and carrying our luggage around for a few minutes we again asked for directions to our cabin. Told “Straight ahead and go left”.

Problem; dragging our luggage straight ahead brought us to a pair of closed doors and a notice that said (as I recall) something to the effect that, “sorry for the inconvenience, etc, etc” and the doors are closed.

(Found out later that it was the ice rink that we were directed to.)

Dragging our luggage up the stairs, through the stinking casino – note that you cannot go directly through the casino – now who designed that labyrinth - we dragged our luggage back downstairs to our cabin. (It was a nice cabin.)

Evening dinner is a disaster. The My Time Dining is anything but My Time. We were not welcome in the

Halfway thru dinner………….”SHOW TIME”… AUUG. No, it’s dinner time.

Meanwhile, the wait staff has left; prancing around like rabbits on the loose…no second cup of coffee, unable to have conversation with table mates. Just NOISE. If I had wanted “entertainment” during my dinner, I would have gone out and watched the elevators go up, and down.

The service in the Windjammer (squat and gobble) was pathetic.

First; couldn’t find any milk. Yes, it was the health inspectors… On MONDAY? Second, no glass to put milk in. Third; told to wait for service to come and assist. Next meal; waited 25 minutes as servers wandered about like puppets on a string, making no eye contact and offering no assistance. I’m thinking if they were peddling booze, they would have been more attentive.

Appetite lost, left full plate of food behind.

The “entertainment” is an embarrassment. As said before, we found the most entertainment was watching the glass elevators going up and down, but by Tuesday morning, that too became boring.

  Dailymail-all advertisments - little information

Ice show…not bad… seen a dozen of them. Have to wear earplugs or risk hearing loss– (not risk-it’s for sure).

Piano music in the Schooner Bar… not bad, but only for a short time. No bragging rights.

Nashville Junction… about the only enjoyable music.

We have lots of ideas for the "gotcha" department,

i.e. Charge for the pool towels.

Charge for the second pad of butter

Charge for the use of the card room

Charge each time you insert your card into your cabin

Lots more. Glad to get off.

Not bad but not great! by graymom97

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The embarkation and disembarkation was a nightmare. The entire first day was a bust! We spent 3 hours her to get on the ship them the rooms were not ready and no luggage for a couple more hours. We couldn't find food that was included anywhere and no help. The second day was much better. It was hard to get the information needed everyday to make plans for everyone and to be able to enjoy fully. If this was my 1st cruise I would not want to go on anther. The kids were allowed to charge on their cards with no limits! We did not receive all our credits either. Be aware!!!!

Memories by slhmartin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The people on the cruise were respectful and kind for the most part.  The food was very good and offered a good variety.  No complaints with the food.   I did not appreciate the constant "up sales" from the specialty restaurants, spa, etc.  If I want to eat in the specialty restaurants I will seek them out and make reservations.  I felt like I was on the streets of Mexico with children selling Chiclets gum.  There did not seem to be as many staff/stewards working on this cruise as I have had on other similarly priced cruises.  The smoke in the casino made it impossible to visit and the smoke rose to the next deck of the ship.  As a nonsmoker, I would like to see a better ventilation system.

Overall good cruise. Dining staff slow. Entertainment poor by Cruiser84659114

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I was overall happy with our experience.   We have sailed with Royal Caribbean before.  I was a little disappointed in the dining service.  They were often slow.  It appeared they had less staff then other times we have sailed.   My biggest disappointment was in the entertainment.  Very few quality shows as in the past.   3 comedy acts and 1 production show which was slow to start due to technical difficulties   We ended up leaving due to the wait. .   They could have done a much better job in that area

Just what we needed! by connielfuller

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

We were looking for relaxation & nice weather.  The Cruise gave us both.  Weather can't be controlled so the last day sailing back was cold & rainy, but we had the other 5 days that were great.  Lots of things to do on the ship, the service was great from Rohan who took care of our cabin to Kevin & Michelle who were our dinner server at table 439, and I mean Great!

First Cruise by robertgreyer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

This was our first cruise and we have mixed reviews. The positive first: staff was extremely attentive and catered to your every wish. They even cut my children's food for them. We have food allergies and once we figured out the procedure (I'll get to that later) the dining staff were beyond accommodating. They went out of their way to ensure that our entire family ate safely throughout the cruise. The ship was pretty clean. Now for the negatives:  Figuring out the procedure for dining with food allergies was NOT communicated clearly by anyone before the cruise or upon embarkation. We were left to figure it out for ourselves resulting in one of our children with celiac disease ingesting gluten. She was sick for the first day and a half. Only after throwing a fit at the concierge desk did we finally get in touch with the right people. Those people were the dining staff. They were amazing!  Other negatives include: very crowded, really tiny rooms, rendering is annoying, too much watching a schedule. Lastly, while the cruise line did their best to ensure a smooth and rapid embarkation and disembarkation it's still a really slow process that our family didn't care for at all.

Review by alainaniemann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Favorite part was the destinations and excursions.  Loved the food and entertainment as well.  Rooms were nice.  Service was excellent.  Price of drinks on the cruise was way too high.  And the fact that we had such strict and constant security on and off the boat made getting on and off more of a hassle.  The fact that you allowed us to bring two of our own bottles of wine aboard was great.  I wish we could bring more.  It was just too expensive to enjoy alcohol on the ship.

Rough start but great ending by pinkivory99

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The New Years Eve celebration was great and we had perfect seats to observe.

The checkin process needs a lot of help when there are fog delays. Royal Caribbean needs to work with Port of Galveston officials to come up with a plan to keep some organization on cruisers trying to get into the port building. Too much chaos and not knowing where the line starts or ends. Possibly use the port police to manage instead of standing around talking or smoking a cigarette.
