Review summary
We love cruising.
While we have been on 14 cruises with 5 different cruise companies; we are not experts by any description, but we do have a little perspective.
A little about the latest Liberty of the Seas cruise.
First; the ship appeared to be very clean with very little signs of neglect in the cleanliness department. The exception was grease on a round table in the Schooner Bar lounge that found its way onto our clothing.
Second; our cabin attendant did an exceptional job in both cleanliness and attention to detail.
Third; our wait staff in restaurant was courteous, helpful and
Beyond these few accolades though, the cruise was a disaster.
Upon initial arrival with luggage in tow on deck 3 (I believe), we asked which direction to our cabin. We were told “There’s a map on the wall”, then dismissed.
Dragging and carrying our luggage around for a few minutes we again asked for directions to our cabin. Told “Straight ahead and go left”.
Problem; dragging our luggage straight ahead brought us to a pair of closed doors and a notice that said (as I recall) something to the effect that, “sorry for the inconvenience, etc, etc” and the doors are closed.
(Found out later that it was the ice rink that we were directed to.)
Dragging our luggage up the stairs, through the stinking casino – note that you cannot go directly through the casino – now who designed that labyrinth - we dragged our luggage back downstairs to our cabin. (It was a nice cabin.)
Evening dinner is a disaster. The My Time Dining is anything but My Time. We were not welcome in the
Halfway thru dinner………….”SHOW TIME”… AUUG. No, it’s dinner time.
Meanwhile, the wait staff has left; prancing around like rabbits on the loose…no second cup of coffee, unable to have conversation with table mates. Just NOISE. If I had wanted “entertainment” during my dinner, I would have gone out and watched the elevators go up, and down.
The service in the Windjammer (squat and gobble) was pathetic.
First; couldn’t find any milk. Yes, it was the health inspectors… On MONDAY? Second, no glass to put milk in. Third; told to wait for service to come and assist. Next meal; waited 25 minutes as servers wandered about like puppets on a string, making no eye contact and offering no assistance. I’m thinking if they were peddling booze, they would have been more attentive.
Appetite lost, left full plate of food behind.
The “entertainment” is an embarrassment. As said before, we found the most entertainment was watching the glass elevators going up and down, but by Tuesday morning, that too became boring.
Dailymail-all advertisments - little information
Ice show…not bad… seen a dozen of them. Have to wear earplugs or risk hearing loss– (not risk-it’s for sure).
Piano music in the Schooner Bar… not bad, but only for a short time. No bragging rights.
Nashville Junction… about the only enjoyable music.
We have lots of ideas for the "gotcha" department,
i.e. Charge for the pool towels.
Charge for the second pad of butter
Charge for the use of the card room
Charge each time you insert your card into your cabin
Lots more. Glad to get off.
