Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston by janetpauls

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

i would definitely recommend this cruise for relaxation and a stress free vacation. Absolutely beautiful ship on a small scale of the Oasis of the Seas. Departure could have been better for anyone travelling on a bus transfer to the airport. We were first to leave the ship however our luggage was in the last section and by the time we got there the lines for customs were so long that we were late arriving at the bus. Luggage should have been the first to be found as you come into the terminal from the ship.

Great cruise with a couple of hitches by virgilmccaleb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I have sailed Royal Caribbean for years and have always enjoyed them.  I still believe they have the best food of the "mid price" cruise lines.

This trip was also very good to excellent overall but there were three "hitches" that I was very disappointed in.

First, the NY Strip Steak I had in the specialty grill restaurant was of poor quality, having a lot of gristle in the steak, not what you would expect when paying the additional fee.  We also ate in Sabor, the Mexican restaurant, and the Italian restaurant and both were outstanding.

Second, there was a strong musty smell from the carpet in the corridor outside our stateroom where it was stained.  I have never experienced this on Royal Caribbean before.

Third, and my biggest complaint, is that I really enjoy single malt scotch whiskys and Macallan 12 is a favorite.  I specifically inquired if it was included in the top level beverage package, was assured it was, only to find out it had been removed from the ship two weeks before.  Misrepresentation at best.

Good Service by Cruiser65587959

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise had 4,300 passengers and over 1,000 workers. If you like cruising and crowds, this is for you. We were very happy to finally find the adult-only pool. The Windjammer food was plentiful and quite good. I used the asian rice bowls in the morning for my oatmeal which was excellent.

Boarding the ship, plan to be early to beat the crowds.  We stood in line after line for 3 1/2 hours when RCC had computer snafus. No water, no food. People who got on early had no issues.

A good week to unplug and enjoy friends, family, and life. by kgoolsby12

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was an excellent cruize. Plenty of time to relax and also time to experience the shore excursions. We had a great time. The staff for the cabin and dinners were outstanding. We could not have asked for better service and friendly people. The entertainment on board was great. We really enjoyed the week on the cruise.

I would do it again by Cruiser52156421

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We thoroughly enjoyed all the entertainment on board. The shows were fantastic. The food in the various restaurants was delicious and filling. Our only complaint had to do with the bed in our cabin. The mattress was very hard and uncomfortable.  However, when we talked to our housekeeping person, he was able to get a pad for the bed that made it more comfortable.

Love Sailing! by ZSTKBRKR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We enjoyed our 7 night RC vacation. The ship was clean, staff very friendly and the food was O.K. We liked the dining room with the three levels and we always do the "any time" dining so it is convenient. The lines were never too bad to get a table and you can make reservations if you choose to. Breakfast was better in the buffet because you have more choices and the food is warmer. We didn't care for the mushy tasteless hash browns in the dining room but in the buffet they had crispy ones which are much better. They didn't charge a corking fee for the two bottles of wine I brought with me, which I thought was nice. They even stored it with our room number so we could finish the following night. BTW I did see that people were getting on the ship with their bottled water and soda drinks, wish I had known! They do allow two bottles of wine, Drinks are ULTRA expensive...beer $8.50 and mixed drinks up to $15.00. They really push the beverage and specialty restaurants. Chops was not good as they are cooking in Duck Fat not butter. The dining room was equal...not sure I would do the specialty dining at all. The beverage package is worth it if you are drinking at least 6 or more drinks per day. Don't forget you are off the ship for three days so we didn't take it and saved a lot of $$$ just buying the drinks.

The Buffet gets tricky trying to dodge the people in the lines and aisles but we figured it was worth it for the selections. They a really did a good job managing the buffet on this cruise. The food trays were quickly filled and they were  always warm. The eggs made to order were great and the lines were not too long. The help staff in the dining room would come around and offer juices, coffee and drinks. They seemed to want to help! The one thing we missed was the hot dogs and hamburgers by the pool. Almost every cruise I have gone on has some food by the pool...so we missed the burgers being grilled outside. Some cruises even have pizza outside and sandwiches but RC does not. The hamburgers are a disappointment as they are served from a tray inside  the buffet. Taste is NOT the same. They do have ice cream served by the kiddie pool in the afternoon which is nice. The lobster night is good. Remember you can make it surf and turf by asking the waiter and you can send anything back that is not to your liking and they will happily get you something else. You can get two entrees if you ask...they are very accommodating in the dining room.

Sailing out of Galveston limits your destinations. After many many cruises out of Galveston ...we have seen all the ports. We liked Honduras the best. We booked a private tour with Cleve and he is a one man show! Takes you all over the island , stopping where ever you want to go, in his 12 passenger van. If you have a group or go as a couple , he is your man! Fun and intelligent with good energy that could be bottled and sold for big bucks!

If you go to Costa Maya get on the shuttle and go to the beach. Go to the second stop on the shuttle where they have the free palapas and give you the free margarita. Yes they are trying to refine the place but we had a GREAT time listing to live music, drinking beer and getting massages. $20. for a great massage on the beach. Can you beat that? It is so Mexico and we had fun.

Cozumel was nice too. We went to Mr. Sanchez's Beach Club about 15 minutes from the pier by Taxi. Its is a very nice resort with a great pool, pool bar and beach is clean and fun for kids too. Snorkeling is available as are the Kayaks. They have an all inclusive price of $59. for food and drinks which we did. The service was great.

Our room on the RC Legend was small, the bathroom very small but pretty typical of sailing on a cruise. Our aft view was amazing and the balcony on floor 7 and 8 are worth booking as they are twice the size and view both aft and side. We had cabin 708 and I HIGHLY recommend it if you do not mind walking. VERY  quiet  and the balcony is as private as it gets. Teo chaise lounges and two chairs and a small table. Perfect balcony and best yet!

All in all....we enjoyed. Happy

Liberty of the Sease, May 7, 2017 by Cruiser89715147

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a wonderful family cruise with options for the children to see and interact with their favorite DreamWorks characters.  We traveled with two special needs children and the crew and staff were very accommodating - we didn't want for anything.  RCI even made special arrangements for boarding and disembarking to reduce the stress on the children.  Our cabin was large, the ship was clean, all the people were wonderful.  The purser's office could use some training on customer relations (they were a bit short/abrupt); and the food was more cafeteria quality (even in the dining rooms).  But overall this was a wondeful family experience!

7 days of heaven by kitana5580

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our favorite part of the cruise was the experience we had onboard. Our stateroom attendant Roy was awesome. He helped us with whatever we wanted or needed and visited with us daily. The balcony was beautiful to eat breakfast on and sit out and unwind each night. The shore excursions were well laid out and made some wonderful memories. We would have liked to know you can prepay the daily gratuitiy charges. Overall it was the perfect trip.

Birthday Celebration Cruise by hawkeye1234

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Favorite part of the cruise was the entertainment (Voytek-classical guitarist, ice show, pair of comedians).

Improvements: Toiletries should mirror what any hotel provides for a week's stay.  Swimming pools should have regular steps or beach walk ins for older travelers-babies and small children in family pools without swim diapers!-need better controls.

Great cruise...but... by aa72882837

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship, crew and staff were great - room steward Ferdi was fun...but, the bed in stateroom 6650 definitely needed replacing!

Never ate in the main dining room, but all other food locations were fine, wanted to try the Chop House specialty dining, but did not due to very poor references from fellow passengers.

Pleasantly Surprised by dawn1019

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I had read so many negative reviews about Galveston, embarkation, cleanliness, food, hard selling etc....that I was a bit tentative. Still, I know that human nature is to complain first, then praise. A cruise, vacation, life is what you make of it. This was number 25 for me and number 8 for my daughter.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Beach the night prior and post. Good location, very good complimentary shuttle service to and from the port. We arrived at the ship around 11:30 am. My Elite status with Celebrity gave me Diamond status on Royal. A little confusion with porters and luggage drop off, but then we quickly moved through the process and were onboard by noon.

Our guarantee inside cabin turned out to be a Promenade Family Inside as large as a small suite. Totally grateful for our good fortune.

We tried Chops, Main Dining, Windjammer and Room Service for dinner. All with their merits. Windjammer was shockingly good in the evening. We had lunch and breakfast mostly in Windjammer, then once in the Main Dining Room. Food is subjective. Nothing exceptional, nothing bad.

We took advantage of the Diamond Lounge for evening cocktails.

The shows we attended were good.

In port, we struck out on our own. Beach days each day.

All in all, we had a great time. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Liberty.

Bon Voyage

western Caribbean Cruise by premier1

Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Loved the cruise with Royal Caribbean, but had bad experience with . They promised me a Specialty Dinner for two, but I didn't get it. I will certainly cruise with Royal Caribbean again but won't book through . They don't honor their promises - better to book direct with cruise line.

Great Vacation by Cruiser20633584

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Liberty of the Seas of a wonderful ship with plenty of activities for all age groups. We took this same cruise lat year and the food in the main dining room seems to have improved. The ship is very clean and the Ice Show is a must see. The children's play area on the upper pool deck would be great for small children. They even have lifeguards on duty now.

Our first cruise by georgia22sisk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first experience on a cruise. We had some high expectations with going on a cruise, from hearing friends and families trips on a cruise ship. Some of these expectations were met and others were not. The ship was very nice. Kept clean very well. Some maintenance needed to be kept up better but a very nice ship all in all. This cruise seemed to be about shopping mostly as they were constantly trying to sell you things on board the ship and telling you where to shop in ports. Did not realize that alot of the extra things were not included in the price we paid to sail on the ship. I.E. lobster, good cut stake, a good hamburger. We did enjoy the main dinning room. Our wait staff was fantastic Toni and Gerald. Great hosts fun and friendly. Service was wonderful. Every one said the food is great on cruises, I wasn't too impressed. I'm not sure how they prepare the food but it tasted not all but most, premade. We only ate at the buffet 3 times twice for breakfast once for lunch the breakfast was ok the lunch was....... well we didn't eat for lunch twice so. But the staff working the buffet were great. Or stateroom attendant was perfect. Great guy we enjoyed talking with him every day. I wish that there was a sail day between the ports it was one right after another and we were exhausted from the last one each time. Cozumel Mexico was a ok port could of been cleaner we went to the recommended shop Diamonds International to purchase a expensive watch. The first lady we met in the store kind of snub us and spoke poorly about us in a joking manner to her Co worker thinking we could not understand her. We worked with a gentle men at that store and bought the watch my husband wanted. ( the grear deals they talk about on the ship at the ports are not so great to say.) The watch we bought we could of bought at home for the same price. But it was an experience we know better now. When they tell you every thing is tax and duty free not true on every thing no matter how many letters of alcohol is bought you have to pay taxes when u get back to the US. Grand Cayman was great friendly people beautiful beaches. Jamaica was our favorite stop. We did what they tell you not to do, we went out from the port at Falmouth and met and hung out with some locals. Hands down the nicest people we have ever met. They were great so kind so much love. We walked around there neighborhood learned some history laughed and enjoyed our time there. The beach was nice also. I wish they wouldn't make it seem like jamaica is a dangerous place like it's in safe to leave their shopping port in Falmouth unless u go on an excursion with the royal Caribbean. It's not like that at all I would like to fly to Jamaica just to hang out with the sams people. When at sea we saw the FREE shows they were good. The two brothers comedy act was great. The solo comedian I didn't like he was too... insulting to be funny. We went to all 3 art auctions and enjoyed them. They were fun and we loved looking at the art work and learning about the art and artist. We rode all 3 slides they were ok. We watched the ride the wave it was entertaining. The pools were ALWAYS crowded. We had a great first time cruising. We might do it agian.

Great cruise by ttraylor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first cruise so we have nothing to compare it to, but the ship was great and sos was the food.  Our meal servers (we had the same ones every night) and the person who took care of our room were the best that I could ever of hoped for.  I couldn't have been happier.

Best trip on Liberty of the Seas yet.......... by Wildbill

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Liberty of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were in the Presidential Suite.......who would think that us little old average Texans would be residing there, but due to my diamond status and a good sale and Haley's help, we arrived.  The amenities afforded that room are awesome.  The concierge (Jorge Gutierrez) was the nicest and most helpful person I have ever met on any ship and I have cruised a lot and on about 6 lines.  He gets six out of a five star rating.  The ice show was very good, but was unimpressed with several other shows and would not attend any others unless pressured by a group I was with.  Some of the best entertainment on the ship was in the lounges and the guitarist Wojtek Kozikowski (and yes, I had to look at the cd I bought to spell it correctly) was outstanding.   His hands flew over his guitar and everyone got goose bumps when he played Malaguena.  Just sitting and listening or watching people dance in the lounge on the Promenade deck was a joyful experience.   I hope he is still there on our next cruise, and we will spend a lot of time listening to him.  A guitarist or pianist that are as wonderful and talented as this guy, really appeal to those of us that do not like silly types of entertainment.  The Windjammer has the best food on the ship (other than Chops, and their steaks can't be beat !)   The Chef's Table experience was very enjoyable, but would like it more if recipes, more talk about the kitchen and the people that work there, etc.........were included.  Lots of wine was served, but we were more about the food and fun presentation of that food.  I would want them to make it a seven rather than five course meal, and have more fun with the appetizer, salad, and desserts in their presentation.  It was a wonderful trip and we are booked in that room next year and the next............we really really liked it and it suited our style of cruising.
