Review summary

We had a great time on our cruise. Our kids are asking when is our next cruise? We had a great time while on the ship as well as on the excursions that we scheduled. We are all looking forward to our next one.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Luggage was taken at the drop off point and was waiting for us later that evening. The check-in process in the terminal moved quickly and was well organized.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was very good in all locations. In the main dining room, the portions seemed small and took a while to get to you.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We did participate in a lot of the trivia contests and games. Most of them were interesting and fun. Some of the 18+ game shows were hysterical.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The stage shows were really good. They did a production of "Saturday Night Fever", an ice skating show and a crew show. They had a fantastic orchestra on the boat that played for various shows. There was a magician and a comedian on certain nights of the cruise. Everyone was very talented and entertaining. Juan (the piano player) and Soundscape were fantastic. Spent some time in the lounges just listening to them.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Our 13 and 16 year old were with the Teen club. They had a lot of great things to say about the staff and the activities. There was a lot to do for them which also gave us some space!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward, Jeremy, was great. Always smiling and asking about plans for the day, review of our day. He did a great job with our room. Our waiters in the dining room tended to our needs and was aware of our preferences. The entertainment staff was fantastic. Mey, Ronnie, Carlos, Viktor and Roy were awesome with the trivia, games and shows. Very energetic and tried to make everything entertaining.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Everything was clean and well maintained. The ship is starting to show it's age. There were some of the hallways near the cabins that had a musty smell.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was a little tight for 4 people. I wish we knew that the two boys would be sleeping on a pull-out sofa. Overall, the beds were comfortable and the cabin was clean.

Ship tip

Double check your accommodations for sleeping arrangements.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

It served it's purpose for getting on and off the ship. It looks better than it did the last time we were up. We didn't do any excursions unless you count the trip up the Turnpike!

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

4 out of 5
We did a snorkeling excursion which took a majority of the time we were in port. The excursion was ok. We had to swim a good distance just to get to the reefs. The seas were a bit choppy where we went so it wasn't easy to do the snorkeling.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
We did two excursions while on the port. Our first was a bus tour through Grand Turk and then were dropped off a the beach where we had beach chairs waiting for us. Beautiful water there and the snorkeling may have been better than our actual snorkeling trip. Our second excursion was renting dune buggies and driving all over the island. That was a lot of fun.

La Romana, Dominican Republic

Our excursion actually took us to Punta Cana where we did a dolphin encounter. This was an incredible experience. It was so much better than the first time I did it about 25 years ago. The staff was all really nice and we had a good amount of time being in with the dolphins. The only bad part was the hour drive to get from the port to the dolphin encounter.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

The shopping area as you leave the ship was well maintained and had a variety of stores. We booked this excursion through BJ's and had to walk about 10 minutes to meet our guides for this excursion. This excursion was a waterfall hike, rock slides and zipline. The guides were very knowledgeable and talked to us until we got to the hiking spot. We had a great time with the

Disembarkation

Getting off the ship took a little while but we went straight through the terminal. Luggage was waiting for us so we quickly retrieved our luggage and were on our way.
