Review summary

The entertainment and the food were good. The ship overall was disorganized and lacked activities that we found on other cruise lines. The dining staff was great, but, the rest of the cruise was not that helpful. Getting information on the ports of call was also difficult. The only source of information was the daily sheet which was geared more towards shopping than the beautiful sights to see. All of the excursions were at an extra cost. Even transportation from the ship to Venice was at a cost. You would think that when the cruise line advertises Venice, Florence, Pisa, etc. that you could actually get to these places without having to spend $100 to $200 to get there. The sightseeing day trips averaged from $100 to $300 per destination per person. This was 2 to 3 times the cost if you were to book these on your own. We actually have 4 in our party and hired a personal driver for the entire day in Rome, Pisa, and Florence. The cost for this was around $300 per day vs. $500 - $600 to take a tour bus for the 4 of us for the day. Overall, I would take the cruise again because of the ports of call, but, I would not travel on Royal Caribbean, Legends of the Seas again.

Ports of call

Naples, Italy

Don't miss the opportunity to go to Pompeii. If you have already seen Pompeii then I recommend to go to the Island Ischia. It is about 45 minutes by Hydrofoil from the Naples port. On Ischia there are two Theramal Spa parks. We went to Negambo. There you will find 20 to 30 natural pools with different minerals and water temperatures. There is also a great beach were you can relax. If you want ot relax, this is the place to go.
Don't Miss: Pompeii

Venice, Italy

A tip in Venice if you are going to the Doges Palace and the Cathedral of Saint Marks. You can rent the Audio guide right across the entrance to the Cathedral. The cost is around $10.00 this will allow you to bypass the lines and go direcly into Saint Mark's church. If you are planning on taking a gondola ride, do not take it a night. Most of the canals are not lit and almost seem abandoned. Most of the residents have moved out of Venice due to the cost of housing in Venice. There are very few bars and very little night life in Venice.
Don't Miss: Doge's Palace and the Private Tour of the Doges Palace, Saint Marks Square and the Cathedral of Saint Marks

Highly recommend this port. It is small, but, very quaint and clean.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

Florence is rich in culture, art, and activities. Especially worth the visit is the church of Santa Crocce. Here you can see the tombs of Michaelangelo, Dante, Galaleo, and others. I would only spend 1/2 day in Pisa. Other than the leaning tower, there is not much else to see in Pisa.
Don't Miss: Florence, Santa Croce Church

There is a very inexpensive open market in Split. The US dollar is strong there and you can find bargains in the open market.
Don't Miss: Open market.

Messina, Sicily

This port you could almost skip. There is very little to do in Messina. Taromina is about 30 minutes away and is worth seeing.
Don't Miss: Taromina

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Visit the city and make sure you walk on top of the outer wall of the city. The view is spectacular of the city and the ocean. You can gain access to the wall right at the entrance to the city were the tender boats drop you off. There is a small fee to walk the wall, but, worth it. Also enjoy the local seafood. There are a lot of restaurants in the city.
Don't Miss: Make sure you walk around the city on top of the wall.
