This was a huge bucket-list dream trip for us, and it could not have been better. The ship was beautiful, the crew was fantastic, the food was delicious, and we had lots of luck with the weather and wildlife spotting. The Northern Lights were tricky, even during good conditions, because of the lights. People did get to see them, but it meant lots of patience and waiting. There were lots of Alaskan-themed activities, talks, and a dedicated naturalist for questions and guidance. It was just an absolutely perfect cruise that we'll forever be grateful to have taken, and I wish anyone that books this the same amount of luck that we had. Enjoy!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We had heard that the Canada Place port in Vancouver could be intense and take awhile, so we showed up early with a lot of patience. We had a plan to check-in our luggage then grab a coffee at the Flying Whale. After we finished checking-in our luggage, a staff member mentioned that the wait was currently short to finish checking in. We went for it, and 40 minutes later we were on-board having a coffee at the Grand Dutch Cafe.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
This ship had our favorite dining room so far, and we really enjoyed our dinner at Pinnacle Grill on the first night. Highly recommend the Alaska Brunch if it is on your itinerary.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Lots of fun activities all around the ship! My favorite was the watercolor painting class, but if you're interested in this be sure to show up early - it was a popular one.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The entertainment was excellent all over the ship! Our favorite was the Step One Dance Company, especially their 'Humanity' show. We loved it!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Excellent as always! Loved the towel animals, and the service was friendly and fast. When they're busy, double-check they've returned the correct ship card.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Koningsdam is our favorite ship so far! Easy to navigate with lots of seating with views. We loved hanging out at the aft Sea View Bar. Lots of areas on-board to view scenery, and the pools were heated!
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Our favorite interior so far, it had a large sideways layout. We really liked the room, it was cozy. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. The walls were magnetic for hooks and the drawers contained hair styling tools.
Ship tip
The Grand Dutch Cafe is not to be missed, and keep your eye out for hidden rubber duckies!
This stop is off-season during early spring and late fall, be sure to double-check the itinerary's excursions before booking if this is important to you.
Beautiful with lots of wildlife to be seen, even near the end of season! The rangers come on the ship with information and items to buy, special drinks and snacks are served - bundle up, grab your binoculars, and head outside... it's worth it!
