Review summary

We enjoyed most aspects of this cruise, however we did feel a little limited by the lack of a quality rock n roll band and the mediocrity of the piano bar performer. We found the band in the B B King Blues club to be the best band on the ship and we enjoyed their performances immensely. We also caught the comedian one night and he was also good.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
The ship assigned boarding groups but failed to enforce them which made the whole process very difficult. They also failed to have signs or people to direct when some one snatched 30 people out of a line and said go over here.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was excellent, food service was excellent but beverage service was slow and disorganized.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We went to several music venues, some excellent and some not so much. The classical quartet was excellent, as was the blues/Motown band in the BB King blues venue. The rock band was not so good and the piano bar (Billboard) was average.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The ship had a talk about Alaska on the first night which was interesting but not really a show. They also had a video presentation about the Earth. The only nights they had traditional cruise ship entertainment was a troupe of dancers who were good, but not exceptional.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Service was very good for food service, but was slow for beverages. We ate breakfast two mornings with no beverage at all. Our room steward was exceptional and always made sure the room was tidy.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean and appeared well maintained but some of the decor is showing wear.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin, though small was always kept tidy by our steward, Iwan. Some of the furniture pieces, however, were starting to show wear and the snap on arm rests on the love seat refused to stay on. Overall we were comfortable.

Ship tip

Read the daily events and plan out you day the night before so you don’t miss any of the mid morning activities you might like.

No real stop here.

5 out of 5
We did an enormously enjoyable whale watching excursion.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We took a train to Whites Pass Summit and learned about the struggles of Gold Rush participants

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
Glacier Bay was amazing!

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We visited the rainforest for a hike and then toured the rescued raptor center and saw a totem pole in the process of being carved.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was much smoother. With the colored tags for groups, we were able to disembark and easily find our luggage.
