Review summary

Highly recommend this cruise because the stops were what we wanted, didn’t disappoint. Time of year was perfect, and other than the less than perfect weather in Malta overnight stop. Malta still showed us what it could be and would go back.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Took a Holland transfer from FCO, very smooth. arrival at port was good. No harassment to take photos with the phoney backgrounds. Cabin card pics taken at check in

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Canelleto and Tamarind were excellent with good flavor and nicer atmosphere. Lidos food was good just a lot crowded at times, but we mainly ate in main dining room. Staff must have been a new bunch as there was confusion at times and had to ask for things constantly. We are sure they will get better. Found the food a little bland at times!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Only played shuffleboard, but had fun!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We generally enjoyed the events we attended at the World Stage, the Three Knights were excellent!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
I would give our cabin stewards a full 5 star though. Day one we told them what we needed and they never let us down.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Koningsdam is starting to show its young age a little but still generally looks good. Main dining room noise and clatter will never be any better b/c of its design. Definitely better if you can get a table out of the middle area. Choose a table under the lower roof area and away from serving stations!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very good position on ship easy access to most areas.

Ship tip

As with all cruise ships, treating staff with respect and showing appreciation ALWAYS helps, no need for bossy behavior and being disrespectful,

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Did not visit port

Just passed thru

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
Got a Dubrovnik pass online, collected at cruise port tourist info office, included bus passes, wall entry, fortress etc. great value. Took city bus there and back. Avoid leaving between 4-5.30 very busy but we still managed to squeeze our way on. Bus drivers were both very grumpy!

Kotor, Montenegro

5 out of 5
Booked independent speed boat ride booked though Viator to Lady of Rocks and Perast 2 hours, very very good. Weather was awesome, owner was great, 8 on boat. 1/2 hour on Island and then over to the beautiful little town of Perast, had a beer and a leisurely walk to end of town, where our boat waited for us. Highly recommend. We then spent the rest of the afternoon in Kotor city walking the walled old town.

Korcula Island, Croatia

5 out of 5
Beautiful little town, weather was fabulous, easily walkable, we walked around the harbour and back. Steepish walks into old town, to great for wheelchairs! Etc. This was the replacement stop for Rijeka, which was a win for us!

Split, Croatia

5 out of 5
We had a tour from port around the Split area and then Walking tour of the Diocletian Palace, very amazing history well worth the cost. Not expensive! Stopped for lunch inside and meandered back to ship. Easy walk.

Koper, Slovenia

We were blown away by the beauty of this country. So glad we spent the money on a tour out to Lake Bled and Ljubljana. Long day but wouldn’t t have missed. The views down to the lake were fab. The city walking tour was very informative and well worth every dollar! The downtown area is free of traffic, bikes are the only things in the core of the city. Very quiet, no sirens, honking horns or pollution. Had an interesting lunch and extra time to explore this beautiful historic city. We booked ours thru Expedia!

Corfu, Greece

Been here before and just walked into town. This time took tour of island to see the sights. Tour guide although good, had a heavy accent so we had a listen very hard to understand her. Tour included a light lunch, also booked thru Expedia!

Catania, Sicily

5 out of 5
Our tour was out to Taormina and we’ll worth it. We generally don’t take ships tours as we prefer smaller groups or doing things on our own. Amazing history and beautiful little town perched on a very high mountain with switch backs ending with an elevator ride to town. We had enough time to leisurely walk the town all the way to famous amphitheater wonderful experience glad we made the effort to find this tour, affordable from the ship as a transfer. Would have been hard to get there independently.

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
Five stars for the whole experience, too bad the weather was not great a few very heavy rain storms blew in which spoiled the experience, especially on an open topped bus! In hindsite, we should have just done the Red route and then the yellow route and skipped the blue route. Perfect way to see the island especially to experience Medina, don’t miss this amazing place! The hop on hop off bus allowed us to see the island but definitely deserves a longer term visit.!

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
Star value not for Naples but for the tour of the Amalfi coast, highly recommend! Stopped in Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, great experience with amazing views, and beautiful little spots. Can’t imagine being there at at the height of the summer though, was crowded in late October, weather was still great! On our way back to Rome the captain thrilled us by slowing down at night to witness the Stromboli volcano erupting, quite a site!

Disembarkation
