Holland was a ship we loved in the past due to traditional services rendered and we also travelled on their smaller ships. We were expecting a higher level of service, better food, bigger shows - acitivities were pretty much the same and very droll- the Pinnacle grill had great service and presentation- but food choices were not huge either. We would have loved to be thrilled to rate this cruise/ship high but feel let down and know others who shared with us, felt the same. We did find no fault with our cabin or cleanliness, guest services were great- so many old nicities are gone.. such a shame!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
quite expedient
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
cold rolls at dinner, less than stellar food choices.. Wait staff great - breakfast and room service much better
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
if you like cards, bingo, napkin folding this is the cruise for you
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Venues in public places, limited seating- "large" stage quite small and views not great- shows were so bad some people walked out- bring back big venues, big acts
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
those we had direct contact with were great
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
newer ship, staterooms quite nice.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Aft cabin had ample storage, huge shower and comfortable desk but lighting was too bright if one person wanted to sleep, while the other sat at desk. The deck was not as large as anticipated. Could have cut back a few feet from desk/sofa and had expanded deck!
Ship tip
I do not know if the activities, etc are the same for every trip so I cannot say but on our particular cruise-
Lake Bled!!! Amazing but 2.5 hr bus ride to get there and back.. very limited time at the Lake area and wasted time for "shopping"- souvenir shops basically- more time on the small boats to circle river would have been lovely or ability to see the castle.
Mt Etna and Jewelry "factory" Great guide- Mt Etna walk around if able- then onto the factory which was a mansion and some sales pitch but lovely array of specialties served with tasting of wine, limoncello- very nice treat! Our guide made this trip the best
worst tour guide ever- had his own agenda, did not take questions, did not stop at Blue Grotto for scenic view/photos.. requested refund and was issued immediately - most of the guests were very upset and did not feel they got their moneys worth- longest stop was bathroom break. Dirty bus windows made it impossible to take photos as we whipped past with one stop from far of church.
went by hydrofoil to Capri/Anacapri- unstructured tour, we paid extra for ski lift ride (14 euros round trip- great scenic views). place as crowded, guide not equipped with mike- we did have a lovely luncheon at a local restaurant, with wine and sparkling water.. walk around with or w/o guide in Capri before taking furnicular down to go back on hydrofoil (this boat trip is 1 hr each way) packed boats with many other visitors
we had expedited disembarkation and able to get off ship quite early (7:15)- only issue was lugging suitcases out but we were aware of this from the onset
