Review summary

6 different nights we had to move the clock ahead and hour. I haven't gotten back on USA time yet. It's funny, I'm not tired. Once I got over the fact that there wasn't something going on every minute I got into the groove and really enjoyed the cruise. The captain, the crew, the staff, everyone was so pleasant. I can't say enough. I would definitely do this cruise again and would definitely cruise Holland America again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food, food areas, dining rooms and staff were more than a 10. I live on WW and had no problem doing it while on board. There were so many delicious selections. I still wonder how they managed to serve fresh food when we were out to sea for 6 days before we saw land. Fantastic!!!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There weren't a lot of the activities I've been used to on other ships. But...that gave me a lot of reading time, card playing time and time to try to catch up on some sleep. My activities started with 4:00 trivia, then 6:00 trivia, show and dinner or dinner and show.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I gave it a 4 because the ones that deserved a 5 actually deserve a 10. But there were those that were just so-so. No matter. I usually only went to the main stage where I only walked out of 1 act. Not because it wasn't good but because it just didn't hold my interest.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We lost 6 hours on this trip. The guests were able to sleep when they wanted to. But the staff had to work as if there had been no time change. They were always smiling and courteous. There wasn't one time that I saw any of the staff show anything but pleasant professionalism, whether they were dealing with me or other guests.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very clean ship with a layout that made sense and made everything easy to find. The shoppes weren't what I'm used to. Quite high end. But it is Holland America.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Clean, clean. We had what we needed. The layout of the room was smaller than any other I've been in for this class. We sometimes have 3 in a room this size. In this room it would have been very uncomfortable. For 2, it was o.k. but tight. We're not big people.

Ship tip

If you can get a suite, get a suite. We went into one and wish we had spent the extra. Don't expect back to back activities. It's much more relaxed than that. Be prepared to relax and enjoy.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

Drove from my home on the other side of the state, parked the car and went to the ship.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

Not a lot to see or do unless you take one of the tours. Wish I had done that.

Malaga, Spain

Took the hop on hop off bus tour. Didn't see anything I would want to hop off for. It was just o.k.

Cartagena, Spain

This is a beautiful port. My favorite part of other countries is the old architecture. This city had so much beautiful old architecture. There was shopping and eateries. A lot of outside eating. We went 2 blocks off the tourist area and it was like being in the ghetto. Stay where the other tourist are.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Did not visit port

This was where I got off the ship and went straight to the airport to go home. Would have loved to have seen Rome.
