Review summary

I spent 24 days on the Koningsdam and it was a pleasure to experience this ship. Relaxing and almost peaceful (evening music made falling asleep difficult). Fantastic port visits.

Embarkation

Went smoothly. Some seniors felt they could cut in line, but since most people were seniors, they were told to stand in line like the rest of us.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the dining areas were tastefully decorated and always had fresh flowers. The dining staff were very nice and friendly. Always watching to see if I needed anything.

Lido Market

5 out of 5

Always a nice variety of food choices. From healthy salads, custom stir fry to the fantastic desserts.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We had two very interesting guest speakers for the transatlantic portion of the cruise. This ship is geared towards older guests so there are not many active activities to choose from. The swimming pool has a retractable glass roof so the pool area was always at a nice temperature.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I believe a lot of effort is put into selecting good shows. The Koningsdam singers and dancers were a pleasure to watch. The band at the BB King Blues Club played great dance music. I wish there had been more audience interaction. The piano players we're fun to watch and during certain sets played requested songs.

Children's Programs

No children with me

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I had the pleasure of fantastic stewards who quickly learned my likes and dislikes. Everybody onboard was very focused on guest satisfaction.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I liked the overall design and layout of this ship. It was very convenient to get from one location to another having a cabin located mid ship. The ship was focused on cleanliness. I wish I could say the same for some passengers. Some people still do not know to sneeze and cough into their sleeve or even cover their mouth!

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
I actually had two different cabins. The first was ocean view 1054 for 14 days and I give it 5 stars. A great cabin, good size for me with a large window. It was fun to watch the rolling waves as we crossed the Atlantic. I moved to an obstructed balcony for the next 10 days. The lifeboats partially blocked the view but it was not bad at all. I wish I could give this cabin 4068 a five-star because it was very nice. The reason for the three stars is that the location was directly above the BB King music venue. Every evening when the band started playing the cabin would vibrate and it was incredibly loud. I am amazed they sell this cabin without a warning regarding the music. As I said in my HAL survey, no paying guest should have to experience this.

Ship tip

This is a peaceful ship. Not a party croud. If you are looking to get away from seniors, this is not the ship.
