Review summary

Knowing what I do now, this is a very difficult cruise for anyone with mobility issues who want to go on shore excursions. Read descriptions carefully as all of them mention the walking issues. We chise the easiest trips we could find, and still found them very hard to manage and exhausting.

Embarkation

Easiest embarkation in Rome ever! Just a breeze, but we did our “Sail Away” documents ahead of time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Chops Grille worth the money. Ate there twice; lunch and dinner. Best steamed lobster—sweet meat! Burger was delicious!

Onboard Activities

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Anyone who complains about this ship’s staff is not telling the whole story. Exceptional staff and crew. Captain is quite young. Everyone working on this ship should be proud of their part in making the cruise so memorable. Can not say a bad word about anyone.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ship was refurbished in 2016. She has a few “dings,” like the two small holes in the wall in cabin 9576, but overall, aptly a “jewel.”

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Oversized balcony, but hardly any direct sun on this cruise (starboard side). Beds were rock hard because matresses are on a platform which is the only real negative I can say about the cabin. Also, need to repair the two holes in the wall. Good closet storage. Bed linens very nice, and soft towels. Steward, Dadi, was wonderful, and took great care of us. Laundry service was also very good.

Ship tip

Make it a point to try all the diverse eating venues; we found great food in each of them.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

We arrived early and spent three days in Rome before sailing; not through Royal Caribbean. Very hot/humid in late August.

Santorini, Greece

If you have ANY mobility issues, reconsider shore excusion. Bus ride from Oia to Thira was fine, but getting on-off the tender was difficult due to no handrails even at dock. Also, not allowed to stay on bus. About a 45-degrees steep climb to the top of the caldera. Tour guide said the way would be level once I got up the hill, with only about 4 low steps to climb before the cable cars. In truth, there were about 35 steps, uphill, and no handrails anywhere. It was tough-going. All this because tour forces you to pass through shopping area, when they could let you out closer to cable cars. Cable car area did have handrails and an elevator from/to the dock which was a life-saver!

Mykonos, Greece

Same problems with mobility, but much less busy than Santorini.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

Again, lots of walking.

Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

Same as above.
