Review summary

Enjoyed my first transatlantic cruise. Enjoyed the ports. I was a solo traveler but was able to join in the activities and have fun. My Time Dining makes it easy to meet new people every day.

Embarkation

Stayed at B & B Sottocoperta. Left at 10:30 am for an easy 5 minute walk to free bus shuttle to port. 3 minute wait on bus and then off to the ship. Drop off suitcase. Medical sign in. Security. SeaPass sign in. Photo. SeaPass. Done. Walk onto ship. Very fast. Missed the rush. 11:30 am in Windjammer having lunch. Cabin was ready at 1 pm.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
My Time Dining. Solo traveler. Always able to share a table. Preferred 6 to 8 person table, but not always possible. They seem to use the 10 person table for people who choose to share. Not easy to communicate with people when sitting at a big table. Food was good in the dining room and at the buffet. Always lots of choice. If I do not have to cook and clean, I am always grateful and happy. Delicious no sugar desserts. Loved the no sugar lemon cookies in Windjammer.

Onboard Activities

Many activities but did not participate very much.

Entertainment

Enjoyed the music shows...Gary Williams, City of Dreams, Analiza Ching, Tracey Shield, Brooks Aehron, Maja Horvat, Fly Boys, West End to Broadway. Loved the classical music. Also, liked walking around the ship and hearing music...guitar, piano, bands. Great music in the Centrum but not enough places to sit and enjoy, so would just walk by and not stay. Centrum is too small to have great, popular musical acts. Not fun to watch when it is crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

Great room, looks exactly like picture on website. Great storage, 22 hangers. Big window, deeper because of location in front of the ship. Not close to elevator but no problem, the walking was ok and I needed the exercise. No need for power strip. Mini fridge empty for personal supplies, but not very cold. Cabin is under the Coral Theater but did not hear any noise, and I was in my cabin during certain shows. There was noise and vibration when we arrived at port and left port. But no big deal, part of the experience and adventure. I did suffer from motion sickness, do not know if it is because of the location of the cabin.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Very quiet and relaxing. Not able to visit and enjoy much because of rainstorm.

Valencia, Spain

Wonderful food walking tour with Urban Adventures. Shared a taxi (15 Euros) with other cruisers to start tour at Mercado de Colon. Lenny, our tour guide, was the best. Loved Valencia and will return and take more time to visit.

Lisbon, Portugal

Experience Lisbon Walk with Urban Adventures...great food tour with Miguel. Shared taxi (4 Euros) to Restauradores Square. Miguel made sure we would be back to the ship for 3:30 pm. Another short taxi ride to port.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

5 out of 5
Excursion with Azores Tours. Beautiful island. Great views. Foggy in some areas. It was a cloudy, rainy day but still saw some beautiful scenery. A little shopping in town. It was a Sunday but stores and restaurants were open. Short walk to ship.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

3 out of 5
Excursion with Royal Caribbean, Old and New San Juan with shuttle to airport. Bus tour (22 people)...short stop (15 minutes) at Fort. Not long enough to enjoy the scenery and to take pictures. By the time you walked to the fort it was time to walk back to the bus. Tight fit with bus in the streets of Old San Juan. Driver gave a lot of historical information. Another long walk to see gate of the wall and then 15 minutes allowed to walk to church. Not enough time to enjoy the walk and the church. Stayed and waited with driver. One hour of free time in Old San Juan to have lunch and shop. It was a Sunday, many stores and restaurants were closed. Drive to airport. Luggage waiting at the airport. Not my favorite way to visit a city but not many choices when you have luggage.

Early 7:30 am because of excursion tour but easy and fast.
