Review summary

Excellent itinerary- we really liked the idea of visiting different ports nearly every day. The food and service was excellent in the Tides Dining Room. We used "My Time" dining and really liked the flexibility, but would have enjoyed sitting with other people at a table as we did at breakfast. We ate in the Wind Jammer Cafe for lunch most days and once for breakfast. Nice to have the buffet, however some of the food looks like it has been sitting around too long there. We didn't feel the need to pay extra for specialty restaurants with excellent food and service in the Tides Dining Room.

Shows on board were mixed, some shows such as the Broadway style shows weren't great, but the other nights were much better. It seems there should be more activities in the evenings before and after shows. The Casino had a "dead atmosphere". We spent no time there as it was smoky and it never seemed to have anyone playing at the tables when we went in.

We enjoyed shore excursions on St Kitts - guided ATV tour, and on Dominica - kayaking down a river to the ocean. Both were great, and very well run tours. We went to the beautiful beaches and shopped in the local shops on the other islands.

Our day at sea was very relaxing, but it is frustrating trying to find deck chairs near the pool when everyone is on board. Too many people saving chairs, makes it difficult to sit where you want.

Overall a great vacation, I would definitely recommend getting to San Juan the day before, as our flights were delayed causing us to barely make it to the ship before it sailed. It all worked out for us, but some other travelers were not as fortunate and had to catch the ship the next day at St Thomas.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Great food and service in the Tides Dining Room

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Could use more activites besides the shows. we would have liked more places to go dance, too much Latin style music in the Centrum.he

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Broadway style shows not great, comedy and concert shows were much better.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff and stewards very helpful and courteous.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship is in very good condition for 10 yrs old, is due for refurbishing, but still looks great and very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
First time we've had a balcony, and we highly recommend it. It's nice to have place to sit and enjoy the views. The room is tight as they all are, but very functional, and the bathroom is also tight but fine.

Ship tip

If you're sailing from San Juan, get there a day early. We booked flights to arrive mid-afternoon, but ended up getting there just before it sailed due to flight delays. We missed the first day- in port on the ship because of this.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
We rented a car at the conclusion of the cruise and toured Old San Juan, had a great time there. It gave us a nice activity until our flight later in the day.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
We went to the beach at Megan's Bay and shopping near the pier, very relaxing day.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
We took a guided ATV tour and had a great time.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Another nice beach day, took the water taxi to the beach for a relaxing day. Took advantage of restaurants that rent beach chairs and umbrellas with drinks for reasonable cost.

Roseau, Dominica

3 out of 5
Shopping area near the pier is sketchy. We were glad we had booked a kayaking tour down a river. We had a great time, and nice scenery, but not anxious to go back to this island.

Bridgetown, Barbados

5 out of 5
Very nice island, we took a taxi to great beach club that set us up with chairs, umbrella and drinks as well as a taxi back to the ship- very relaxing and a beautiful beach!

Thanks for your wonderful review.  I enjoyed it.  Thanks also for the tip suggesting that passengers arrive a day early when sailing from San Juan.  We did that when we flew out of Seattle leaving from Florida.  It was peace of mind.
