Jewel of the Seas

7 Night Canada/New England (Boston Roundtrip)

Sail date: October 14, 2006

Ship: Jewel of the Seas

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 14 years ago

Review summary

Gorgeous ship with lots of windows and glass in the public areas. Beautiful layout and decor. Cabins were efficient, but extremely cramped. We had a balcony cabin, but it was the smallest cabin of any category we've ever had. The bed was equivalent to a futon or sofa bed. Food was mediocre.

Ports of call

Saint John, New Brunswick

Gourmet lunch and Canadian wine tasting at the Dufferin Inn was pricey but fabulous. If you're a foodie or a wine lover, it's worth the $100+ and 3 hours!
Don't Miss: Bay of Fundy. Check it out in the morning and again in the afternoon. Low tide vs. high tide make it an entirely different place.

Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

Seafood Shanty offered great lobster chowder and a very good view of the harbor.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Henry House, about 2 blocks from the pier. Authentic pub built in 1850. Smells like ale and mold, but it's good ale and mold! Order the "Peculiar Ale:"

Portland, Maine

Walker point on the Kennebunkport excursion.

Bar Harbor, Maine

Stuffed baked lobster at West Street Cafe and blueberry pie a la mode at Donahue's. Good blueberry beer there, too. Skip the nachos, though.
Don't Miss: Local pottery shops near the park east of the harbor.

Pros: Gorgeous ship, super-friendly staff

Cons: Tiny, cramped cabin and EXTREMELY uncomfortable bed.
