Great cruise overall by nasserak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The cabin we ended up with was obstructed ocean view (no view) which was good enough to get some day light in to the cabin. Ship was sold out. Ship was clean and the crew was very helpful and courteous.

A wonderful cruise by wchorney

Sail date: /
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

I have already written a review. I did want to add the following: Our server was Golina from Bulgaria. We ate in the dining room most evenings at 7:45pm. She was phenomenal. Golina worked very hard, she was extremely helpful, kind, had a great dry sense of humor, and we enjoyed her company and expertise immensely. We were unable to tell her this, as we were ill the last couple of nights. Please let her know. Thank you.

Great Itinerary, service was average,, by JanetS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Small ship. Lots to do and entertainment I feel they tend to nickel and dime you to much. All ships do that but this never let up. I paid for an exercise class ( $12) and it didn't even include a bottle of water.

This cruise was incredible!!! The staff was inpeccable and the most personable they could ever be. Each person there treated us like we were so important. My husband teased about wanting frog legs for dinner one night when the maitre d asked if we needed anything else- he had them the following night!! Anything you want, they want to povide for you. The itinerary for this trip was awesome! Each port offered new and different experiences that we truly enoyed to the fullest!! If you go on this ship, go to sabatini's italian restaurant adn ask for marian to be your waiter. In all of our world travels, we have never had a waited this fantastic!!! enjoy your cruise! This one is great!!

If you love history by srobi263

We had a nice cruise. I just didn't enjoy that 12 hours of watching walls as we went through the canal. Clearly it was interesting for most passengers, so If you are into that, go.

An amazing first cruise! by AnnM14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

For my first cruise, I was spoiled! The room was very comfy with lots of room for my stuff, a refrigerator to put our drinks, snacks, etc and a good sized balcony for the views. The food was very good at every meal and they made things differently from at your standard restaurant. Our steward was awesome and always did everything we requested. Our Head Waiter, Waiter and Junior Waiters were awesome and friendly and gave us the best service. We did the Chef's Table and it was the highlight of the trip! If you want to feel like royalty, this is for you. The service was impeccable, the food was to die for, beautiful, plated table-side and the Chef introduced each course with info on how it was made, the ingredients, etc. The table setting was beautiful and the wine was flowing! The ship was a good size for a 1st timer and I never felt that there was nothing to do. The deck was spacious with lots of chairs (even though other passengers hoarded them), with the great pool hot tubs and ludicrous-jumbo tv over the deck. Not too many stores on board, which was fine with me, but when I needed something, they had it for sale. The photographers were really nice and didn't chase you too much for the photos, but were really fun when you were there to be photographed. The excursion choices were good, but if you have time to research, you can book the same tours for a tad bit cheaper.

Stabilizers were broken during our... by jlb23rock

Sail date: /
Ship: Island Princess

Stabilizers were broken during our trip in 2011! We spent the whole cruise with shaking decks ! We cruised the Panama Canal ! Port excursions were decent but expensive, we spent a lot of money per person for this trip , around $2000 per person for s shaking cruise ship! Could have been better with a better price or we should have gotten a discount because of the stabilizers problem!

Cruise through Panama Canal by HannaB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The food for this trip was cheap and had no flair! Chef was feeding us like old people going through a buffet line. I have cruised several different lines and the food was terrible. Many times the food was cold and made with all processed foods. Salads were old and the salad dressing must of come from big cans and all tasted the same. Yuck!

Our Princess Cruise #1 by NancyP10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Took this cruise to the Panama Canal in January 2011. We had a handicapped room with a balcony. This was our first splurge to get a balcony and it was well worth the money. The balcony was a good size and very relaxing when you are on it. I don't think we will go any other way anymore. We got spoiled on this cruise. The room was enormous for a cruise ship.much larger than any other cruiseline. It had everything we needed. As far as the service, the room steward was hardly ever seen but the room was always clean. It was very easy to maneuver around the ship. The food and drinks were good. The entertainment was not as good as most of the other ships that we went on. There were some repeats of a couple of the shows and the quality of the shows I would give a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Not impressive at all. The pool area was very quiet for the most part. I did not like them showing movies at the pool. I don't think that is a place to be showing movies. There should be more entertainment around the pool. The santuary is so quiet and boring and the pool was too deep. It is a good place if you like to read. There was nothing else much going on in there except the Milk and Cookies girl going around. On the whole, it was a very relaxing trip but it lacked entertainment. A little too quiet for us. There were mostly baby boomers on this ship and not too many kids which was why it was so quiet especially at this time of year The ports were all very nice and the excursions were all great. Trip around Cartegena by bus was good, , Banana Plantation and jungle cruise in Costa Rica was great, bus trip to Dunns Falls was also great in Jamaica. All in all a very enjoyable trip. Everyone should do this one.

Nice long cruise by Johngold

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This was the second cruise on Princess. We took an inside cabin at the rear of deck 8, just by the door to the back balcony. The cruise was great and nothing with the exception of a couple of misunderstandings on my part regarding the Spa and Internet, can I complain about anything. I started cruising in 2009 to Hawaii and we plan a nice long cruise every odd year. So far so good.

On these cruise ships and any cruise line you choose, one must take everything into consideration. Our room Steward was nothing short of incredible, he really earned the tip we gave him and then some. We found "our guy" for the drinks by the pool, and he made sure that whenever he saw us anywhere, we were very well taken care of.

For the Shore excursions, we made sure we met every time for a few minutes with the security chief on board for advice and information. Therefore, not a single problem occurred. The food during the entire cruise was as expected, but we did use the eggs station at the buffet for breakfast, Once they got to know us and what we wanted it was just fabulous, and that only took to the second day.

For those who want to do the Panama Canal, I would highly recommend it. If  not for the nice long trip, but for the history you learn and for many of us .. remember from school. My wife and I would never have seen the Old City in Cartegena if not for this cruise and it was a real high point for us.

The next cruise we are taking will stop in Aruba. Aruba was also my first stop on this cruise and we decided on this cruise because one of the stops is Aruba.

Reviews are great for future travellers and I depend on the input from people who do travel for correct information. One thing I did learn though. This cruise was a combined itinerary and therefore there are many things to know about them. Internet connection is one. It does not last the whole cruise. Spa packages... check these out carefully...... You may not get what you think you paid for.

If you consider it two cruises instead of one. Restart your thoughts at the end of the first cruise before the second starts. There are different passengers and maybe a different demographic that the first part of the cruise.

Overall a five star rating.

I will add more pictures when I find the file.

Relaxing and Smooth by DrT19509055

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Smooth sailing with mature passengers. An Alaskan cruise is a must for everyone, and this 92000 ton ship is great. Fabulous scenery with good food to boot. Walking through the ports of call is a great way to experience Alaska and Whittier's history as a military town in WW2 is fascinating. If you have more time, take the extended excursion to Denali Park to experience the northern lights and polar bears.
