Review summary

Our first ever cruise and the Island set the bar!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Well organized for running a cruise port out of a building that was not designed for that purpose.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I thought the food was better than what I had expected having read mixed reviews. My wife and I tried every venue and always found the quality consistently good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I did several trivia games run by the entertainment staff and they were a lot of fun. The presentations by the onboard naturalist were fantastic!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The two productions that we attended were top notch. The comedian they had was very funny, but the ventriloquist fell short for us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
After reading mixed reviews about the friendliness of staff, we found the staff to be very friendly. We had waiters in the Horizon Court that you would here singing as they went by, and we found most staff always smiling and greeting you as you passed. Our room steward did an okay job, but nothing over the top.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It took a bit of time to get oriented on the ship, but then we found it fairly easy to get from our cabin to other parts of the ship efficiently. The ship was very clean and looked great, so unless you knew how old the ship was there was not many signs of age.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Balcony was huge! Plenty of room to relax and enjoy the views of Alaska. Our only complaint on the room is the lack of sitting space. One of us had to sit on the bed because there was only a small desk chair in the room. Bathroom was adequate, but the shower was very small and hard to move in.

Ship tip

Interact with Natalie, the cruise director, and her staff. They are amazing people and work hard at making the cruise fun.

Ports of call

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did an excursion that took us to Mendenhall Glacier, a salmon hatchery, and the beautiful Glacier Gardens. We also took the tram up to Mount Roberts.

Whittier (Anchorage), Alaska

3 out of 5
Only disembarked here and bussed to Anchorage. Was really not much there anyway.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
Big city vibe but short drive to escape. Take the Sea To Sky highway drive with the GyPSy app.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Loved this rustic town(except for all the jewelry stores). Took the Steetcar Tour in the morning to learn about the town, and then did the Yukon & White Pass Raul to the summit and back. Great scenery!

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

4 out of 5
We did whale watching with Honnah Adventures and they did not disappoint!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was very smooth and efficient. We unfortunately had the very first grip time, so we met at 6:10 in our designated lounge. We were off the ship and loaded on our airport transport by 6:30. When we got to the Anchorage airport, we had to wait several hours before our check in desk was even open. (Wish we could have spent that time sleeping in and getting breakfast on board)
