Review summary

Given the issues with no chairs in the stateroom, the small showers, and the generally slow dining room service, I doubt that we will book this ship again

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Mostly good, but, one night, I ordered Puerto Rico Pulled Pork, and got a ridiculously small portion

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Did not use very many (only trivia) and Lotus pool was closed for 2 days

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The steel drummer was good, just not my kind of music. The Party band was so-so. However, the ship's orchestra was excellent, and the girl singer on the 1st and 3rd nights was just outstanding. The production shows were mostly good, except for the Encore show on the last night, mostly opera, and boring. There were 2 female instrumentalists (guitar and violin) that were just great

Children's Programs

We had no children with us

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
A mixed bag. Room Steward was very good, but at 3 of our dinners, service was excrutiatingly slow, causing us to miss 2 shows. To offset this, the head waiter Pietro was excellent in letting my wife pre-order because of food allergies. This is one thing Princess does very well Also, on 2 occasions, once in the Horizon Court, and once in the dining room, when I went to use the pepper shaker, the cap was not firmly attached, and came right off into whatever I was eating, necessitating a new plate of food. I think that whoever was filling up the pepper shakers was not paying much attention when putting the cap back on. Very irritating

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I would have ranked this better is we had realized that all the important venues were in the forward part of the ship, so we had to walk the entire length of the ship several times a day. This was out own fault for not checking more carefully

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
One thing that really upset me was that there was no chair, other than an uncomfortable desk chair, to sit in. Sitting on the edge of the bed hurts my back. When we are in for the night, I like to watch TV for a while. I eventually ended up bringing in a chair from the balcony. Also, even by Cruise ship standards, the shower was exceptionally tiny

Ports of call

San Francisco, California

5 out of 5

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
This port is becoming "Cozumel-ized", with pushy people trying o sell trinkets, hats, tours, and who knows what else. I also did not appreciate that the tender pier was moved to the other side of the boat harbor, necessitating a long walk in the hot sun. I will not be getting off here in the future

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

3 out of 5
See above comments for Cabo

Puntarenas, Costa Rica Did not visit port

Wife was ill. However, I heard from other passengers that there tour bus was detained by local protesters

Fuerte Amador, Panama Did not visit port

No desire to get off

Panama Canal Transit

5 out of 5
Whole purpose of the trip was to make the Panama Canal transit

Cartagena, Colombia

3 out of 5
More pushy vendors... bus back to port was extremely crowded

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Disembarkation

Usually, ship-wide announcements are made, calling various groups. In th Horizon Court, where we were having breakfast, we heard no announcements. This was not a big deal, since we prefer to be among the last to get off anyhow
