Review summary

only have been on one other cruise and I was disappointed in this cruise. The staff was excellent but that is about all I could say was positive through out.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
not impressed - repeated menu every night. Left side never changed and if you went to the dining room where you were asked to dress decent - the buffet had the same items as the dining room. Nothing unusual

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Lounge music in Wheelhouse was awful the fours nites we were in there - not good - couldn't sing at all!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff in all areas were great - over worked and probably underpaid. 12 hour days/7 days a week

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin was always clean but we didn't have foot stools on the balcony while people above and below us did. We had 2 chairs and a tall table - very disappointing because we would have liked to sit out there and relax with our feet up but couldn't.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5

Oranjestad, Aruba

Way to short - two hours!!! Barely got off ship and had to be back. Not sure why it was so short.

Cartagena, Colombia

3 out of 5
Enjoyed Cartagena - drivers take you where they want to go and get kick backs from venders. But the city was interesting.

Panama Canal (Cruise Into Canal)

5 out of 5
We enjoyed going through the locks - this was interesting but wished we could have gone on shore with scooter.

Colon, Panama

1 out of 5
This is what the whole trip was about and was very disappointed. If you didn't take a tour for $150 plus - allowed on land from 5 to7:30. Did not have way for husband to take scooter on shore and was not told this before hand. Very very disappointed. Then bus tours that day got delayed and we were delayed the next day in Limon. Bus tours got back at 10:00 and later during the evening. 5 to 7 on shore - dark and not in good area - unsafe feeling. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED SINCE THIS WAS THE REASON FOR THE TRIP.

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

5 out of 5
We wish we could have seen more but enjoyed what we did see - although the tour we took was a little laughable - guide was nice and kept it interesting. We took the bus, train, canal ride.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Loved Grand Cayman - again could not take scooter a shore. Stopped at vistors center to ask where we could rent something to get around in and were told that other cruises bring scooters a shore and that this was a decision by Princess ONLY! Again not informed prior to cruise that scooter was a problem - why suggest it at all? I would go back to the Grand Cayman anytime but again - wish we could have spent more time - maybe even over night!

MelandIzzy6 - The Island Princess has two designated smoking areas. The Churchill Lounge (Deck 6 or 7) and Deck 14 (I think). The Casino allows smoking on some nights but I am not sure if that is only in a limited area or not. There are some updates being done on the Island Princess and deck plans may change a bit, but I expect smoking areas will probably stay the same.

Most of the ships have a smoking area up high near the sanctuary and on the promenade. Also in the Casino...I think they have a cigar room somewhere??? (Sorry, but as a non smoker, I am happy that smoking is limited).. The casino allows smoking. It's supposed to have machines marked non smoking, but smokers seem to ignore that rule. in any case, fewer people seem to be smokers, so it's not much of a problem to us. Have fun.

Freedom lass I think you won't be disappointed. We absolutely loved the Island Princess. She was lovely and clean and the food was incredible.

I am so sorry to bother you, but I was considering booking this cruise on the Island Princess...and even the staff at Princess cannot answer this, but we are trying to figure out if there is a smoking area on deck 15...I know since the ship was refurbished last year that the sanctuary is now where the smoking area was...did you happen to see if there was a smoking area there??

I hope that we aren't disappointed then as we sail on the island princess in April, we have previously been on the crown and sea princess twice, out of the 2 I preferred sea princess

Did you like your other cruise? What was it that bothered you about this cruise? My sole complaint about any of the cruises I have been on is that the food is too mildly flavored. (of course that didn't stop me from stuffing myself..lol..) But, that's what more people like. I like more heat. I would like a few more spicy "hot" dishes. I have decided to take a little shaker of cayenne on our next cruise. That should fix the problem. BTW, cayenne speeds the metabolism and is actually good for digestion.
