Oceania is a great cruise line but the Amazon was definitely disappointing. There is just not much to see and do there. A few animals and an indigenous tribe over a 25 day period is not worth the time or money. Oceania should improve their onboard activities .
Embarkation

Organized and efficient
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Specialty restaurants are free and food is good. Buffets are excellent and staff serves everything so it is clean and germ free. There is lobster at every lunch and dinner for the entire cruise. The main dining room is ok but mainly opted for the buffet most nights.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Oceania definitely needs to improve onboard activities. There are none at all on port days and basically the same activities every sea day.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Some entertainment was excellent some just ok. This was a 25 day cruise and we saw some entertainers 3 times. Definitely needed more variety.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff is excellent. Service is always excellent and what sets Oceania apart from other cruise lines.

We had the Owner’s Suite. It is very large and very comfortable and very quiet.
Went to LaRomana due to rough waters in Punta Cana. Did an excursion through the ship that was so bad we received a refund after complaining to the ship’s GM after the ship shore excursion manager ignored our complaint. Our friends picked up a taxi off the ship for 40.00 total and had a much better experience and tour that included the same place we went plus additional stops.
I had a similar experience on the Volendam recently. The Amazon cruise was underwhelming. The OP is correct that several stops didn't offer any excursions. We also ran aground and missed two ports. HAL was also lacking with respect to educational lectures on Brazil. Normally I enjoy my HAL cruises but the Amazon cruise was disappointing.
