Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Independence of the Seas is beautiful.  Staff was great.  Cruise director awesome.  Fantastic shows.  Don't miss them!  Food OK, not fantastic.

Ice show is a must see.  Fantastic violin and skaters.

Vocal impersonator was a great show.

Win a free cruise at bingo.  A lot of fun to play.

Excursion seminars were very helpful.

small cabin by eyarckin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

First this had to be the smallest cabin I have ever been in.  It was difficult for 2 people to walk around at the same time.  Also,  The bed was very old and saggy.  They had put a waffle mattress pad on top to try to help this out but this was full of mold.  When I tried to call the front desk there were times that I was on hold for over 30 min.  which is not acceptable.

Food was just OK.  Buffet was inedible.  Soggy, overcooked and tasteless.

Ship itself was beautiful.

Independence of the Seas 4 Night Western Caribbean by amik

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Even though we only visited one port (Cozumel) the trip was very enjoyable. The food and beverage service in the main dining room was superb, however the Windjammer dining room was getting too crowded for breakfast and lunch. The entertainment was first class, and in particular we enjoyed the headliner performers, (a singer and a comedian on separate nights). The ice show was also very entertaining. As we had previously been to the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan, we only did some shopping in Cozumel, and that experience in port did not offer a particularly strong attraction.

We had a wonderful time! by aquanator6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Entertainment, food, accommodations and even the weather were all fantastic! Only disappointment was the open ice skating was only 1 hour of an evening during dinner. Our kids wanted to do that and didn't get to. Thanks Royal Caribbean for another great family vacation.

Cruise on! by labedzf

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Royal Caribbean Cruise on Independence of the Seas was our first time and was enjoyed by both of us. We did not know what expect and were well provided with both crew service and food. At times the company's push for fees is a bit much but a part of cost structure.

SIMPLY OK by sstromik517

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Been on several cruises to the Western Caribbean.  This one wasn't a favorite for several reasons:  Had to tender in quite a distance in Belize;  Cozumel port is a congested mess and you must take a taxi everywhere; RC ship is dated and needs updating with an upbeat décor;  King Lear dining room is downright depressing;  Windjammer food (breakfast) always cold; casino should be a fun atmosphere but dealers don't even smile let alone make eye contact.

We would NEVER book with again.  Our party of 7 got absolutely nothing but a booking charge from them ... plus they added unrequested  trip protection to ONE of the reservations which were all made together and refused to take it off stating "well did you read your contract".  YES, the first one but didn't realize we needed to read all SEVEN.  Booked a snorkeling excursion through also.  WHAT AN EXPENSIVE DISASTER !!  Crammed everyone into an uncomfortable small boat to get there, used OLD FASHIONED ORANGE LIFE JACKETS that left strap marks on everyone, and they didn't even have flippers to fit one of the kids (size 3 shoe).  Again, no satisfaction from

Our Independence of the Seas experience by Cruiser771

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful 5 day Western Caribbean Cruise aboard the Independence of the Seas. It was simply AMAZING! The ship was magnificent!  The ship itself was in great condition, it was clean and it was BIG!

The staff was outstanding. Our stateroom attendant Orion was professional, courteous and just did a great job.

The food was amazing! The wait staff was fantastic! The buffet was huge and the quality of food exceptional. The variety of food was terrific and there was also a wide variety of healthy choices as well.

Royal Caribbean definitely has their game together and we will definitely cruise with them in the future.

Worst cruise ever by mm09013

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were with a big group and had a terrible time. Good was awful, service was terrible, water in our cabin smelled like poop. Will never go on another Royal Caribbean ship again. Should have never strayed from Norwegian.

Keep Looking by Cruiser193

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Not able to enjoy Belize or Cozumel ports due to bad weather so I have nothing to say about excursions.  The waiters I had at my table were great. Traveled with my 4 year old granddaughter and she fell asleep at the table prior to being served.  He made sure the next days she had her food right away in case she fell asleep again. I had the premium drink package and I should have drank beer or wine so the bartenders couldn't mess them up. First had a dirty martini which I think I was missing the vodka (Kettle One) called drink. Tasted like pure olive juice. Another time at dinner I asked for a chocolate martini.  I have no clue what they gave me but they left it and brought me another looking entirely different. Also the Bloody Mary's were not good.  At dinner I asked for a frozen Oreo Cookie drink for my granddaughter and ended up being given a chocolate chip cookie instead.  My drinks were ordered prior to ordering my meal and not delivered until I was almost finished with my meals.  Last day they failed to give me my key card back & had to look for it after the restaurant closed.

Haiti/Jamaica by Cruiser363

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise was amazing. We had smooth sailing, wonderful excursions, and just a generally wonderful time. Snorkeling in Haiti was gorgeous and got to see some really interesting corals. Climbing the falls at Dunn's River in Jamaica was intensely amazing. I would highly recommend that to anyone.

Nice ship but not great food by willinmj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Very nice suite and service to go with it, but food was not exciting at all.  All was bland, including tasteless orange juice, coffee, lemonade.  Menus were not that exciting.  It was nice that on the Labadee stop there was lunch provided by the cruise line and you did not have to pay extra.  The line to get off the ship was horrible.

Last minute decision by geben3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We decided to take this cruise at the last minute, booking some 12 days before we sailed. Great decision! Wonderful food, lovely quiet cabin -2552. Al in all would recommend this ship , big, but so easy to nagging ate around. Labadee was a tropical paradise, Falmouth, typical run down and smelly Caribbean port, but great atmosphere.

Slow boat to ... by samantha411

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was in good shape albeit aging. The crew were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. I'm sure I gained weight as I'm  sure most people do on a cruise. I thought I'd balance it with a good workout but the gym wasn't as good as I expected. . I lost my enthusiasm after the first day. The entertainment was surprisingly good. All in all, It was good to get away to a warm climate with a wonderful companion and be pampered. I highly recommend a balcony.

Wont be taking Royal Caribbean again... by Cruiser837

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Second cruise ever and had the worst time! To many things that went bad. Food was cold and poor tasting. Only positive about the cruise was John and Kenger as our servers that were awesome, and the cruise director was funny! Cozumel was also fun and beautiful!

Disappointing by mccarey39

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Getting on and off the boat was absolutely horrible!!!  They ran out of parking (even though we were there 4 hours early) and had to go to off campus parking and take a shuttle.  Upon return there was no shuttle to get us back to this remote parking location- had to pay a taxi to take us there.  The food on the cruise was terrible and I am not a picky eater.  I really didn't have one good meal- thankfully the rolls and bread were decent:)  The crew really did not seem like they wanted to be there and thus you could tell by the poor service- although cabin attendant was very good.  The positives were the kids camp and the shows at night.  I definitely will not be going on Royal Caribbean again- did not get value for the amount of money I spent.
