Review summary

Independance was a nice boat and there is LOADS to do for familys. Just felt like you had to pay for everything, silly amounts $1 here $5 there soon added up. The drinks where quite dear once the 18% had been added on. The muster drill is the one thing that will stick with me. Standing outside in a queue (yet again) watching people who really didn't seem to care about your safety, explaining how to put a life jacket on. Other passengers smoking and a little worse for wear and the person giving the instructions on the PA system was over the top on enthusiasm and quite annoying. In all not really my cup of tea, nothing at all wrong with RCL just didn't really gel with me. Would not rule out RCL completely if the iternerary was good I would still use them.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Brilliant got there early and as I had checked in on-line only photo and then onto the boat.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Not a massive amount of choice in the MDR but I assume its because it was only a short cruise. Still managed to cater for my intolerances. Had to queue which was annoying as people where saving places so you ended up further back in the queue than when you started. Buffet was really good, loads of choice. As the queue was so long for MDR tried Izumi really good "show" food was lovely, a little steep on the price.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
My husband tried the fitness center and thought it was brilliant, very well equipped. Pools where busy and no where to sit. Rock climbing, flow rider etc. where not really our thing plus we didn't have children.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Never managed to see any of the entertainment as the queues where too long even if we got there super early there where still queues. The band that played in Boleros where brilliant and could have listened all night.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
All staff seemed friendly and dedicated.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Its a big ship but easy to get around. The app was brilliant and also the interactive displays where a very good idea. The ship could do with a little TLC in places but nothing to put you off. All public areas where clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was 7401 right near the aft of the ship. It was clean and quite spacious for an inside. We had a setee as well as a king size bed and vanity area. Bathroom was clean and even had a proper shower enclosure, our only issue was the shower didn't drain properly for the first 2 days and so flooded the bathroom but we reported it to maintenance and the problem was no more.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England Did not visit port

Embarkation only

Zeebrugge (Bruges), Belgium

5 out of 5
We have been many times but never made it to Bruges itself only Blakenberge so did an excursion Flanders by coach. It was lovely, visted a chocolate factory which my husband enjoyed a lot.

Cherbourg, France

4 out of 5
We did the all access tour on the boat so didn't really see much of Cherbourg. What we did see was pretty but everything apart from the some of the bars where closed as it was Sunday.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Did self disembarkation, was told we could leave at 0615 and we did.
