This was my first cruise ( Big Bob Leasure, Cruise Director, referred to me as a "late bloomer" ). :-)
I'm hooked on cruising for sure! The things I loved about Grandeur of the Seas was the slow, relaxing atmosphere. Most of the guests were older. What i appreciated about that was, minimal overindulged, loud and crazy folks. The few children that were on board were well behaved and adorable! As a mother of 4 and grandmother of 7, I dearly love children, but when I'm relaxing on a cruise, I believe the sun, good food and evening entertainment are all the noise and excitement I prefer.
We will do this same cruise next year and maybe a bit bigger ship in between - just to have the experience a bigger ship offers. But this will no doubt be my go to vacation, every Jan/Feb.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Easy. The dock and K-Elite made it seamless.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Dining room atmosphere was nice, but the food at the Windjammer was actually better. The steak we had at the Great Gatsby left much to be desired - and was left on our plate.
We loved the variety and open time frame of the Windjammer and will likely stick to this venue next time.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We were spectators this time, but certainly enjoyed the dancing and comedians. Ventriloquist was the best!
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Being a small ship, we didn't see a huge variety of musicians. We would like to see single guitar players or small bands (other than Jamaican) playing on the pool deck and the Centrum.
Children's Programs
no children with us.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Five Start Hotel Service for sure! Lambert, our steward, found solutions to our small cabin issues right away. He was pleasant, quiet and there when we needed him. Excellent training!
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Loved the sanitizer offered at every corner...no doubt kept us and many others healthy!
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Overall was comfortable. Bed too hard, but Lambert, our steward was able to use a blanket fold in half to add softness. Size of good - although we will try an oceanview next time. Cleanliness of great. Smelled fresh after he serviced it, but overall there was a slight stale odor in the cabin. Lambert noticed we had a light bulb out in our bath - which we didn't even notice - and had it replace within the first day or so.
Ship tip
Bring a cabin freshener. Tip the staff generously - they work very hard and smile constantly. Talk to other cruisers. As much research as I did beforehand, I learned more from the experienced cruisers onboard.
We chose the Grandeur because it sailed out of Baltimore - which is a reasonable drive for us from Columbus OH. Flying is such a hassle these days. Will try NYC and NJ possibly as we have family there to visit.
The addiction is real...lol. Welcome to the club. We been on the Grandeur twice, know exactly want you mean. Extremely laid back. Just got home from sailing the Anthem..loved that too. We always sail Jan/Feb/March great time to go.
