Review summary

This was our first cruise to Alaska, we’d happily go again. We felt very at home and comfortable on Grand Princess as it’s a ship similar to many others in the Princess fleet that we’ve cruised aboard. We enjoyed the food, the service and the general ambience of the ship created by Princess and all to the very high exacting standards that we’ve come to expect. We weren’t disappointed in any of these respects on this cruise. The staff are all so lovely and very friendly. The places we visited were absolutely spectacular, probably helped because the sun shone for all but one port (Victoria). Another wonderful cruise, thank you Princess, we’ve come back new !

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Polite and courteous staff, but there was no cruise card available for my wife so we were left sitting in the embarkation hall for half an hour waiting for a card to get in the ship. We’re Platinum loyalty level so should have had priority embarkation, not a good start !

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We’ve been on many Princess Cruises, it is never possible to fault the overall quality of the dining on board any of their ships. This cruise was no exception with great food (quality and selection) and the staff are amazing and so lovely. We went to The Crown Grill (Speciality steak restaurant) and enjoyed top class food and service.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We didn’t really partake of any activities.

Entertainment

The times of the theatre shows weren’t convenient for us with respect to our dining times

Children's Programs

We aren’t children !

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service provision form all staff on board is just simply outstanding. Everyone we came into contact with was always helpful, friendly and courteous. They are all really lovely people who just want to make your cruise experience unforgettable, and they really do.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We really like this type of ship, the layout and design works really well for us. We’ve not yet been on any of the new ships, frankly we’re concerned about the balcony sizes on them. So we stick to the class of ship like the Grand Princess. The ship was very well maintained and clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very comfortable beds. The TV has been updated to flat screen and wall mounted so releases some shelf space in the corner of the cabin. Not so keen on the different shower room/shelving and wardrobe layout. Might just be that we were used to the previous layout, but I’m pretty sure that the wardrobe space is now smaller. Minor points really, we love these balcony cabins.

Ship tip

Always try and get a balcony cabin, it provides you with a piece of deck space of your own to retreat to.

Too bad your day at Victoria wasn’t a nice day. We were on Celebrity Solstice to Alaska and Victoria was wonderful . The city is so clean and beautiful. We went to Butchart Gardens which was spectacular. Hope you get to go back some day.
