Review summary

Good cruise overall I guess. Entertainment was awesome as well as dining room waiters and room steward. Guess most of my problems lay within for my lack of being a people person. Beautiful ship. Food was better with Royal than on the other two Norwegian ships I've experienced. Even though I like dressing up, I did kinda of enjoy the more casual atmosphere of Norwegian over the more formal on Royal Caribbean.

Embarkation

Process went extremely smooth. We were on ship within 30 mins of arriving @ port. My niece had to check-in upon arrival since she didn't have passport as that was only accepted ID when checking-in online. That was our only real holdup.

Food and Dining

Food in Main Dining Room was very good with few exceptions. Alex our waiter was fantastic however, along with our head waiter (Unfortunately, do not recall his name. We were stationed at table 717 on deck 5). They were both extremely personable and friendly. Always there to assist in any way possible. The bread rolls, in my opinion, could be little softer but that's just me. We had 3 night dining package. We ate at Chops Grille, which had a FANTASTIC Filet Mignon and dinner bread w/butter. Honestly, I am not really big on steak but do try it occasionally. This Filet Mignon was hands down the BEST steak I've every eaten. My niece also had FM, however she wasn't as overly impressed as I was. She stated she eats steak pretty regularly. She live is Louisiana and says the seasoning was little off for her liking. Had The Wedge for my appetizer. It wasn't bad. They made few adjustments for my liking, such as substituted ranch for blue cheese. Both of us ordered the GRILLED BLACK PEPPER BACON which is Slow-cooked Berkshire pork, sweet and spicy glaze. Neither of us liked it. Wasn't what we expected it to be. To be honest, didn't really read description so thought it was going to be just grilled pepper bacon strips. It was more tune to a medium thin grilled pork chop (hence the description). We did not care of it. We tried Giovanni's Table a couple nights later. Food was ok, but wasn't all that impressed..(just personally opinion). Although server tried explaining most of what items were on menu, I had trouble understanding exactly what items were as I had never had of most, or they just didn't sound very good. Ended up having another Filet Mignon (since really liked the one from Chops). Was good but not as good as the other one. Niece had crab ravioli. She liked it ok. She provided me a sample to try as well, and though it wasn't bad, was glad I chose to order another steak instead. She said it won't be something she'd order again. For our 3rd choice, we had Sabor Mexican Food. This was also very, very good. It was my second best (beyond Chops) but my niece choose it was her top pick. They start you off w/chips and homemade guacamole. You chose how spicy you would like it as its freshly made to order. Also ordered queso to go with our chips. We both had original margaritas. They are good, but pretty strong. We split one Tres Queso Quesadilla, in addition to one Chicken Stuffed Jalapenos for appetizers. Both were pretty tasty. To finish off, we both had Jalapeno-Garlic Tiger Shrimp. It was enjoyable. Just enough spicy for my liking. For dessert, we had an arrangement of several items to include chocolate crepe, churros, creme brulee to name a few. Churros were wonderful. We requested more of those, which he happily obliged. Crepe was different but good. Did not care for texture of Creme Brulee. Other items we tasted were ok. Churros were our favorite, hands down. Was not all that impressed with Windjammer Buffet. Had the same dishes every day. Burgers were good though, as were most of the desserts. Witnessed this one lade grab item with her hands instead of using the provided thongs. I confronted her, asking "did you just grab that with your hand?" Her response "Yeah" (in a tone like what are you going to do about it). I lost her right after as it was really busy time of day or else I would have reported her to staff.

Onboard Activities

Tried the ice skating for about 20 minutes (they break it down into 30 min intervals but i was little late getting started). Was planning on doing the rock climbing wall but never made it. Flow Rider looked like fun but wasn't something I cared to try for the price it was offered at. They had nice adult only (16+) pool area. Actually didn't have to fight over chairs (with exception of the 1 sea day we had) which was rather surprising. Only downside was water throughout was over 6ft so could not reach bottom to just get in without having to hold on to sidebars when not actually swimming. Two 16+ whirlpools were ok. Think water needs to be little warmer though. Had same issue with whirlpools on-board two Norwegian ships I've cruised on, so maybe its kept certain temperature for reason. Did not try Fitness Center as I normally do on-board ships.

Entertainment

The 2 stage shows were super entertaining, as well as 2 comedy shows and 1 vocal act. Was little worried since we were not able to make reservations online for any of the entertainment. However, RC does it open seating with first come, first serve seating. My experience with Norwegian was you had to make reservations to attend. Theater for two stories so provided plenty of room for all guests who wanted to attend. We always got there approx 20 mins early for best seats. Although they make announcements prior to each show to please put cell phones and pagers away, there was ALWAYS those few who insist of keeping there phones on during show which is SUPER ANNOYING!! This one lady sitting below us had her child watching movie on her phone during the entire performance. Realize you want to keep child entertained, but that is just rude it my opinion as the screen distracts others around them such as my self from show. Personally, I feel all shows should be for adults only or at least only children old enough to seat and enjoy the shows without having to be otherwise entertained. The Ice Skating show was very good as well.

Service and Staff

Again, both waiters taking care of table 717 in Main Dining were awesome!! Our waiter in Sabor was also excellent. We had great conversation while dining there. Dominic, our room steward, was more than you could ask for. Always kept our rooms clean and freshly stocked with necessities. Very friendly and personable. Never acted as if we were bothering him if we needed anything outside the norm. Most of the other personnel I encountered were somewhat friendly with few exceptions. Romero and Sergio (entertainment servers) were very friendly and attentive. Also made sure we had great pina coladas during the shows.

Staff did great job keeping ship clean. Design was great as well.

Cabin / Stateroom

Little smaller than I would have liked for two people but beds were comfortable. We had to take turns using night stand/dresser for getting ready for dinner each evening. Often times had to use bathroom to get ready as was just too crowded with two ladies trying to get ready in that one area.

Ship tip

When leaving shows or just walking through ship, don't just STOP and TALK in the MIDDLE OF WHERE everyone else is trying to walk or get out of theater. Have little COMMON SENSE AND COURTESY people!!

Only thing we did was go grab dinner at Tijuana Bar and Grill Saturday night prior to cruise. Other our hotel Caribe Hilton, had everything we needed. Great beach area we decided to hang out at instead of going out once we arrived Saturday afternoon. Day of Disembarkation we stayed at DoubleTree by Hilton. Honestly wasn't in best of mood Sunday once we arrived back in port, so my plans to visit Old San Juan never occurred, as I opted to just relax and watch TV in room.

Took advantage of Golden Eagle Sail Away offered by RC Excursion. Had a wonderful time on the Catamaran, did some snorkeling and beach time. Had great rum punch and sandwiches on way back to ship.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

Did Rain Forest Hike and some beach time. Not a good excursion in my opinion. But Niece enjoyed the hike. Beach area we went to was not that great. Highlight of this excursion however was 6 month old baby monkey we got to hold during the hike. He was adorable. Downside was we made a quick stop on a hill to take pics on way to beach. As soon as you get out of your vehicle, there are several men there who proceed to throw some larger monkeys at you, two or three at time, ask if you want pictures then charge you. They one guy pretty much hounded me with his monkeys and demanded $10

Did Kayaking, snorkeling and beach excursion. My first time Kayaking was quite the experience. Luckily was a short journey. My niece had kayaked once before but it had been awhile so we had little trouble on way out but on way back we did much better. Snorkeling was great with exception of rough waters. Saw some beautiful fish. During boat ride back to kayaks, they served the best rum punch I'd every tasted!! Was different then the other rum punches I'd ever tried. They make it with lemonade, brown sugar among other ingredients. We were then taken to beautiful beach area and fed some wonderful jerk chicken with pasta, rice & gravy which as delicious.. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Fidel with Holiday Riding Stables was excellent. We were picked up at port by Dennis for 20 min ride to stables. We took ride to beach area for photo shoot then took horses into the water for short 15 ride. Asked Fidel if we could get horses to trot on journey back, which he agreed, as long as we were comfortable with it. He was very good host!!

Bridgetown, Barbados

Snorkeling with beautiful large turtles, saw underwater shipwreck. Way too many people for my liking in the snorkeling area as there were 2 to 3 other groups there at same time trying to see same things. Could not really move without running over, or being ran over, by other people in the water.

Disembarkation

Seemed rather hectic, as though some people did not adhere to there scheduled departure time and everyone was trying to get off at the same time. Lines were long through customs to exit building and once you got out it was not clear where to meet up with uber drivers. It was crazy mess.
