Review summary

Royal Caribbean does not disappoint. We had amazing experiences and enjoyed every port of call. We were lucky to spend time in San Juan before and after. The ship is due for some updates but is clean and well maintained.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
It was quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food and service were good in the main dining room and excellent at Chops and Sabor. We rarely ate at the buffet but didn’t have any complaints.

Café Promenade

5 out of 5

We got the refreshment package mainly for the specialty coffees. The coffee and service were great. We ended up eating breakfast here most days as well.

Johnny Rockets

5 out of 5

We had a great late lunch following an excursion one day. The onion rings are the best. And we were pleasantly surprised to find out our refreshment package covered the cost of the milkshakes.

Sabor Mexican Restaurant

5 out of 5

We were concerned when we first got there for lunch that the table next to us was complaining about not getting their food. We ended up getting great and prompt service. The food was excellent and it was probably the best margarita I’ve ever had. The waitress spoiled my churro addicted daughter by bringing her an extra plate of churros to go when we were finished.

Chop's Grille

5 out of 5

Our service and food were wonderful.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There’s something for everyone.

Dunes Mini Golf

3 out of 5

We love putt putt but this poor course needs some serious TLC.

Logo Souvenir Shop

4 out of 5

We watched the cruise compass for news about the big tee shirt sale. It was nice that they set tables outside of the shop as there was more room to fight the crowds. We were a little disappointed that there weren’t shirts available for every port on our itinerary.

Center Ice Rink

5 out of 5

It was amazing to see how much the performers could do on such a small piece of ice.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the main shows including comedians, production shows, and the ice show. Some of the trivia games and game shows were fun depending on the host.

Children's Programs

Did not travel with children.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward did a nice job in our room. Wait staff in the main dining room were good but made us feel guilty the two nights we had dinner elsewhere.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The maintenance was great considering the ship is about to go into dry dock.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We made the best choice going with a spacious balcony cabin this time. Well worth the extra money.

Ship tip

Spring for a balcony cabin.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
We went to San Juan a couple days early. We walked Old San Juan and visited the forts on our own. We did the Hidden Waterfall Hike with Jerry’s Adventures. I would highly recommend Jerry!

Oranjestad, Aruba

5 out of 5
We did the Kukoo Kunuku beach adventure through Royal Caribbean. There were a couple short stops at a chapel and lighthouse but the majority of the time was at a beautiful beach. The excursion included chairs which was a nice plus. The party bus was fun and our guide did a great job but one of the other buses was clearly having much more fun!

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
We went to the Curaçao Sea Aquarium and did the Sea Lion Experience through Royal Caribbean. This was one of our favorite experiences. It was limited to 6 participants and we learned a great deal about Sea Lions and loved every minute of kissing, petting, and hugging Snapper.

Kralendijk, Bonaire

5 out of 5
We rented a 4 person golf cart from Bonaire Cruisers. We couldn’t have been happier. They gave us a detailed map and lots of information. We drove the southern loop of the island stopping whenever we wanted to look at the salt flats, slave huts, lighthouse, etc. We saw lots of flamingos and wild donkeys. We took the northern loop as far as 1000 steps and walked down to a beautiful beach. On the way back to the ship we bought wonderful products from bonaireseasalt.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
We did the Maho Beach experience through Royal Caribbean. The beach was quite an experience. We saw several large jets land while we were there. The downside was the small size of the beach and how crowded it was. There were vendors everywhere trying to sell to you. We had a good lunch at the Sunset Beach Bar but it was quite expensive and then paid $1 to use a filthy toilet. The experience of being that close to the planes outweighed all the negatives however.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were one of the last groups to disembark but it was quick and easy. We had transportation to the Doubletree and as soon as we had our luggage and were off the ship we were in a shuttle all to ourselves.
