Review summary

I have mixed reviews about this cruise. Tragedy struck in the beginning and the staff handled it very well; but the overall experience had me uneasy. I felt a bit bored on the boat; but my son had a blast! They need to do better with food management since I found a string of hair in the honey mustard and reported it. They also need to do better with managing the kids at teens club - staff should know when children come and leave out and if there is a change in the kids’ itinerary. The staff were friendly and helpful for the most part. Also, there should be more finger food available throughout the day. I understand there are restrictions given the number of people on the boat; but more options are helpful.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
I gave this a 4 because apparently me and few other folks were “missing important documents” that were supposedly provided by royal; however, I hadn’t received anything.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food stations close pretty early and at certain times of the day; so if you miss the time, you strike out or have to buy food. Plus, better food management is necessary.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
I would give this a 5 for activities for kids. There’s lots of activities for kids to do; but not many for adults (in my opinion). I’ve been on other cruises where there was a nice balance.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I thoroughly enjoyed the two shows I attended.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
I went back and forth about whether I should rate this a 4 or a 5, then decided to rate it a 4. My son had a blast! They had tons of activities for him to do, and with kids his age. I am giving this a 4 because the night before our cruise was expected to end, my son was missing for 45 minutes, and NO ONE from teen club could tell me when they last saw him or where he could have possibly went. The employee that was on duty told me “I don’t know, I just got here”. When you are working with children, you should be able to account for every child coming and out. If you are switching shifts, the person on the previous shift should give you the rundown - period. Guest services was amazing and handled the situation beautifully. I do thank them for their assistance.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service was really good and friendly.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is pretty big and nice. The elevators were incredibly slow. It could easily take 8 or more minutes for you to get an elevator (no exaggeration).

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I thought the cabin was pretty spacious and comfortable.

Ship tip

Do a lot of research on excursions on the island. I felt that the excursions were pretty pricey. Bring walkie-talkies and plan to eat enough to keep you full since most of the “included” dining closes pretty early.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
Puerto Rico is my home away from home. I’m being a bit bias here since I am Puerto Rico; but honestly, PR offers something for everyone and is absolutely stunning! We explored El Yunque and had a great experience.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
The beach was beautiful, but be prepared to get hustled by a lot of folks. The jet skiing was tons of fun and very reasonable in price.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

4 out of 5
The beach was nice. We dipped our feet in sparkly black sand and saw monkeys walking with their owners across the beach. Snorkeling in this area was pretty cool and easy to do as well.

St. John's, Antigua

4 out of 5
We didn’t do much in Antigua besides a guided tour. It was our least favorite port.

Castries, St. Lucia

5 out of 5
Absolutely stunning!! We had a phenomenal time. We visited a prayer garden sanctuary that was marvelous. We took a guided tour through the windy roads, plantations and farms. Then we explored La Soufriere active volcano which was super cool. We topped it all off by dining on the very top of a mountain overlooking a beautiful view. We will definitely be going back to St. Lucia!!!

Bridgetown, Barbados

5 out of 5
We had a spectacular time in Barbados. We started our day with a tour and then partied with the locals for the crop-over (carnival). It was spectacular and great fun!!! We definitely will be going back to Barbados.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It was quick and easy. Since we had an excursion the day we got back, they took our luggage directly to the airport.
