Freedom of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: December 07, 2014

Ship: Freedom of the Seas

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Review summary

The ship was sailing very slow. Passengers were kept from knowing the fact that the ship had some issues with propeller at the booking. To the worst, the Capitan made decision NOT to stop at Cozumel as originally scheduled, regardless of huge opposition from thousands of passengers. Instead of air-lifting a 10-month old baby to hospital, the Capitan took all 3634 passengers back after two hours sailing. We were very sorry for not being able to visit Cozumel, a coastal city of our dream. We were not compensated at all, and of course, we'll never cruise this ship again.

I would have to agree with everyone. Life before port. Besides, I enjoy just being on the ship. I know, I'm boring but to each their own.

I too would be upset if I missed a port especially if I paid good money. However passenger's health should ALWAYS be a cruise line's number one priority. it was probably in the best interest of the child to turn around as apposed to waiting for help to arrive depending on the state of the child's health. As a mother who adores her children I would have told the captain to turn this ship around! I'm glad that decision was made that and I would return just because they cared. If anything would have happened to the child the captain would have been in the line of fire not only legally but passengers who really care. not to mention people who care who have never been on Royal Caribbean. seniorcruiser I hope you were compensated and I'm sure your feeling was not against the baby and their family. I can't imagine what the baby's parents were thinking. Missing the port was most likely not on their mind.

I'm sorry but Cozumel is a pitiful example of a coastal city of your dream. We've been there a half dozen times and the last 2 or 3 we never left the ship because of where we docked. We had propeller issues on our last cruise on this ship without compensation. That seems to be the way RCI treats it's customers. As far as the sick baby you be a special kind of person to be mad they took the baby's health over a few hours in a tourist trap.

@slloyd... we love Cozumel. Been there many times and yes, we are beach bums but that is what WE choose to do. We go to Paradise Beach which is a short 15 minute taxi ride to get to and they only charge you $2.00 USD to enter and many amenities are part of the $2.00!!

I'm sad people will miss the beauty around us because they are staring at what they may consider a negative. I get it, you're older, not sure if/when you will cruise again but to miss the beauty of the other ports and cruising itself is sad. I don't like rain but I love fruit. Imagine if I missed out on fruit because I was so angry that it rained. Enjoy life even if plans change.

Grand Cayman is definitely top of the list but there are amazing things to do on Cozumel as well. Horse back riding, Mayan ruins, swim with dolphins.... Or just enjoy the port and beach... Free....

You didn't miss much by not visiting Cozumel. Been there twice now and would not go back. Not much to see there at all only beach clubs which you have to pay to get in to. Other islands are much nicer, like Grand Cayman.

No point in complaining about a missed port. we've missed MANY ports over the years, for many different reasons, weather, medical, maintenance. its all part of cruising, and I don't think a cruise line should reimburse. you are taking a risk when cruising, anything could wrong. I'm pretty sure that it's even in the cruise documents.

I hope the baby is okay. And this is not Carnival's Freedom. This is a Royal Ship. Also this people sound like they are wanting a free cruise. They don't care about a baby. And the need to know a life is more important.

good man lazyG

hell no I wouldn't have flipped out...a life is more important than a vacation let you know Carnival is going to reimburse them some kind of way

ChrisandFrank    9 years ago

@lazygreg...we r not responding for entertainment. .it's really how I feel about op. what's your take greg..would you have flipped out if you found out the ship turned around to get medical attention for a baby...or anyone for that matter?

lazyGreg    9 years ago

this is so great keep it up people

I am sure the family of the baby THANKS the Captain for putting that 10 month old FIRST. I am sure if it was their child, the review would be so Thankful instead of ungrateful.

Doesn't seem as you care too much about the baby..only missing the "coastal city of your dream". Do you have a clue about anything. Helicopters don't pop out of the top of the ship. The coast guard would have to dispatch..and last I heard..they are busy looking for survivors of the sunken el faro. Perhaps the captain was instructed by the coast guard to turn the ship back.
