Review summary

This was the worst cruise I’ve taken and will be my last with HAL due to the dining and customer service. We also had a man expose himself and was completely naked on the Lido next to the pool in front of several waitstaff (who did nothing) and people. Glacier Bay and Hoonah were fantastic.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Very smooth and fast embarkation. Could have been a little more organized with directions on where to go.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
MDR food was served cold and many meals and beverages were missed altogether. Service was very slow and they kept pushing for us to sit at a shared table or come back hours later. Buffet was overall good but so crowded that many times we couldn’t get a seat. We ended up eating at the Tamarind twice and Pinnacle once just to get good food and service. The food was delicious at the specialty dining. Dive In was consistently delicious.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
There were a lot of activities at great times but you had to buy into them in order to participate. Activities like trivia were around 8 or 9pm. We were going to use the spa one day but all the massages were booked and it was very crowded for a day pass at $49/person.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Our stateroom attendants were fantastic. The service in all the dining facilities and bars was lacking. I’m not sure if it’s because they were overworked and understaffed but it was noticeable to our group.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
This was my third time on the Eurodam and it’s very sad to see it in this shape. Overall dirty, bathroom next to MDR on deck 2 was mostly closed the entire time due to flooding (soap bubbles coming up from the floor). I don’t mind and older ship but they really need to repair quite a few areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We had to switch our original cabin due to a mechanical issue they couldn’t fix. It unfortunately still had hair in the bathroom and tub from the previous guest. Our second cabin was clean and comfortable.

Ports of call

Cruise Puget Sound

5 out of 5
Beautiful scenery

CRUISE STEPHENS PASSAGE

5 out of 5
Gorgeous scenery. We saw bears along the shoreline, seals and even some mountain goats.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
We got lucky and had a beautiful and sunny day. This was the highlight of the trip.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

5 out of 5
Beautiful and small port. We walked along the beach and had fresh crab legs. We saw a pod of humpback whales right when we docked while on the verandah. It was a very special and memorable experience.

Sitka, Alaska

3 out of 5
Beautiful sailing into it and even saw a humpback whale. Unfortunately we docked with some larger ships and shared the complimentary shuttle that took over an hour in the rain to get into port. There wasn’t enough time in port to justify waiting that long.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
Went on the deadliest catch tour and had a wonderful time. Really cute port. I wish we were there longer because I would have liked to explore.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Overall smooth. Slight delay while they had to fix the gangway due to the tide but safety first so can’t complain.
