Review summary

1st of all the agent I dealt with on gave me wrong information About the dollar amount of gratuity. Also we were not going to sail on Holland America and we're going to sail own possibly carnival but my agent on whose name is Toni recommended that we use Holland America. It was mine and my husband's 1st cruise and not the best experience. The food was terrible the shows were just OK and fact we left during one of the shows because it wasn't great. We had 2 good stewards that cleaned our room and 1 good waiter. The places we went to were great but the 1st 2 nights on the ship I actually went to bed hungry. My husband is not a picky eater and he didn't even like the food. We talked to several people on that ship and they were all complaining about the food . Not sure how anyone can mess up steamed white rice but they managed to do it on that ship. Will not sail on the Eurodam again and maybe not even Holland America after this experience. Both my husband and I were also lied to from Pablo at guest services on this ship offering us a meal at one of the upper tier restaurants and then after we made our selection he told us that we only could pick from 2 of the 4 restaurants, he also told us that he had already mentioned that which he never did to either me or my husband. Then he kept arguing with us so I hung up on. Him. Needless to say we received nothing and never got a call from anyone else. We talked with a couple owned the ship one morning at breakfast and he told us this was their 15th crews and the 1st time on this ship and it was also the last time because it was the worst ship he had been on. He said they food was terrible and customer service was terrible. We feel the same way. Thanks Holland America and for screwing up our 1st cruise.

To PDX's point. Customer service was very helpful when I informed them of several problems I experienced at sea. They went out of their way to make it up to me and to retain me as a customer. Guest services onboard has very limited options for resolving problems. Make sure to document the names of staff you spoke with onboard and take pictures or video if possible. Customer Service will look back through your record and make things right if you prove your case. I rented a cabana that was filled with garbage and rotten food for the first 2 days of the trip... pictures and video proved it. Case closed... refund issued.

Nieuw Amsterdam rocks!!! If you went to bed hungry on a cruise... you must have missed something somewhere. I couldn't stop staff from offering food, and room service is free (for most things).

I am sorry your experience wasn't what you hoped for, but I sailed on the Eurodam in Jan 2018 and everything about the ship, the food, the cabin, the itinerary and especially the crew was outstanding. You don't mention where you sailed or when, but Holland America is an amazing cruise line and perhaps they would appreciate hearing from you regarding your issues. Try calling customer service at 1-877-932-4259. It's worth a try.

Don't blame Holland America, blame the ship. We were on Nieuw Amsterdam last March and the food was outstanding. The buffet, which the staff serves you was great and the main dining room was absolutely delicious. The Dive-In for hamburgers, hotdogs and fries was so good. The best burgers I've ever had. The staff was just fantastic., especially at the buffet. Always smiling and friendly. Our room steward always called us by name everytime he saw us and asked how our day was at the different ports. We never had to ask for anything. One of the best ships I've been on. Msybd would g try the ship you were on but will definitely use Hi ollsnc America again.

You may not be happier with Carnival food, it is ok but just not the quality of Princess (although we have had bad MDR food, but the waiters took care of us). I suggest one of the larger ships like Carnival Magic, I was finding free food venues as we left I did know about during our 7 days with quality ranging from ok to excellent. Remember, in the MDR, if you can not eat the food, politely let the waiters know what is wrong and ask for a suggestion if you are not sure what you want.

All of the bad things are terrible. We always book directly with carnival and loved it every time. We have been on carnival 24 times and loved it every time.
