Review summary

Being with a larger group, we had a great time. Dinning was wonderful, we were able to eat at the same time every night, at same table. Met so many wonderful regulars, just wish we met them earlier in the week. Don’t like that the photography folks try to get you every port for an additional charge/photo. I know some people want to experience their first time, however the photos were a bit much.

Embarkation

Excellent first point of contact. Port attendants were very nice and friendly, just didn’t like 1 lady who thought those with roll-aboard bags had to have luggage tags. She made things a bit confusing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Since this was an adventure to see Alaska, and Glaciers, I thought I’d only eat the seafood. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Everything was excellent.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Being with friends made the trip more enjoyable. Each day, we would do the different activities, whether it was Bingo, Art auction, America’s Test Kitchen, kitchen behind the scenes tour, or afternoon High Tea. Each day was truly an adventure.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Most nights the entertainment was good. Didn’t care for the Magician who performed. His humor just didn’t sit well....guess his humor was better suited towards a Las Vegas crowd. Dueling Pianos were fun and energetic

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room stewards were extremely friendly, and helpful. Ensure room was tidy each day, and were always available.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Overall the ship was in good shape. During this cruise, they were in the process of doing some renovations to the hallways corridors. So during different port stops, they were tearing down sidewalls, or ripping up carpet.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
If this was a cruise we’re scenery was everything, I would have been disappointed, however, since I was rarely in the room during the day time and/or week, I didn’t mind the obstructed view.

Ship tip

Get to know where and when the Happy Hours are. Seemed like everything is alacart, so be sure you know what you’re paying for before ordering.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
Extreme ease of check-in made the first experience with Holland America excellent.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Small quaint town. Glad we were the second ship in as once the other two ships joined, the town got a bit crowded.

Sitka, Alaska

5 out of 5
Great to see that Sitka tries to rehabilitate young bears who were taken from their mothers.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
Nothing like traveling from Amsterdam, seeing their Red Light District, to Ketchikans Red Light District. Fun to see the Salmon jumping up stream to spawn.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
Fun little town. Try to find a quick bite and drink on such a short visit was hard, but well worth the walk around town.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
One of the first off the ship, was great to go through customs so quickly.

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

Glad your group was able to tour Alaska together and share the day's events at dinner together. Agree about the photos, but that is their job. Best wishes on future cruises.

A lot of people don’t regulary take photos so this is a good way for them to get a personal souvenir of the trip...same with all the photo opportunities such as gala night photos. Many people treasure them when they get home. We do not, because we take thousands of photos! So we just shake our head and say no thanks.

Yes you can, and yes we did. I just felt like we were more at an amusement park being asked when you first walk into the park (at each port) than on a cruise. Although, it was fun to venture past the photos and seeing everyones experience.

Crazy as it seems, but you can actually say no to having your picture taken.
