Review summary

The best part of this cruise was the amazing ports of call. Each was unique and beautiful. The excursions we chose were for the most part very enjoyable.  The whole Mediterranean experience was an unforgettable one. We agree, however, that the Holland America cruise line leaves much to be desired. Cabin service was fine but food and service in the dining area was substandard. We would not recommend Holland America as cruise line of choice for Europe.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food-just okay. Food service in the buffet, nonexistent. We got everything on our own and had to ask to have a table cleaned in order to sit down to eat. When dining in the main dining room service was better.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
We do not drink alcohol and almost all the activities revolved around alcohol.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The comedian and young singer were very good. Our favorite group was the B B King band. We enjoyed them every night.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

Our cabin steward, Ali, was great! It was the service in the buffet dining that was almost nonexistent.

Ship tip

Book another cruise line. We were not impressed.

It is so small you can see it all without booking an excursion. We did book a half day and went to some of the other French Riviera cities. I wasn't disappointed but would have preferred to stay in Monaco.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

We booked only the transfer and did our own thing. Be well prepared if you do this. I had made a reservation at the Accademia to see the David before we left home. You must do this if you are planning to see it or the Uffizi. Otherwise the lines are too long. Our guide gave us an excellent map that included suggestions of what can be covered in the 5 hours you have.
