Review summary

I did enjoy the ship, the crew, and the ports of call. Royal Caribbean is not a luxury cruise line, so don't expect too much if you have been with other cruise lines. I would not go on another Royal Caribbean cruise, except the ports of call I found on my cruise. There are too many little cost cutting issues.... only one service a day of our state room. Lower quality preparation of food in the main dining room.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Once we got to Ravenna (not easy with rail transportation down because of flooding) embarcation was a breeze.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in the main dining room was only just edible. The last two nights, the food improved enough to acknowledge. The dining staff was wonderful, but the food was not good. The food a the windjammer (buffet) was better and with more selection. The room service food was OK, but it was quick to arrive. The specialty restaurant "Chops" was excellent. I had a lunch, and every course was tasty.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The pool area was good. Bingo was fun, Karaoke was a blast.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
This was one area where I was completely surprised at the excellent level of the ship's stage shows. Very well done.

Children's Programs

no children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff on board were marvelous.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
She's a little old and it shows, only slightly. She's well maintained and clean. I like she is small by today's standards because it's easy to get from the bow to the stern and not too many decks to climb, using the stairs. I liked the old girl....

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Initial reaction to the cabin was not good.... dirty rugs with food and hair littering the floor. Found a sticky used glass in a cupboard. After showing the issues to my steward he maintained the room to my standard for the rest of my journey. The bed was comfortable and I was surprised to find out Royal Caribbean only serviced the rooms once a day. There was no turn down service with a chocolate on my pillow at night. What's up with that?

Ship tip

Enjoy the small ship comforts, and be ready for cut rate cruise experience. Love the ship.

Ports of call

Ravenna, Italy

5 out of 5
Love the city of Ravenna. It is not Venice (as the initial cruise was described). There is a lovely feeling about this city I was not familiar with

Koper, Slovenia

5 out of 5
Completely unexpected port that I would like to spend more time in.

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
Took an excellent excursion to Taormina

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
It takes a long bus ride to Rome, (90mins) but Rome is Rome....

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Woohoo Florence... almost two hours by train....

Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France

5 out of 5
Easy tender port with quick access to Nice, Monte Carlo by train

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
One of the most vibrant ports of call.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Self disembarkation

Unfortunately once a day service is now the standard for Carnival, NCL and RCI non suites.
