Review summary

Great trip thanks to the port stops! Ship was smaller with less to do as our previous cruises, but we still enjoyed. I did miss having a balcony, however I instead booked 2 connecting ocean view rooms for less than 1 balcony room and we felt the extra space and 2nd bathroom (and cost savings) made this a better choice for us. I spent time sitting on the chairs on Deck 5 when I wanted the balcony feel.

Embarkation

We had a 10am check-in and arrived early. Parking lot opened a few minutes before 10 and we were parked and through security and check-in quickly. However, boarding was delayed and we had to wait for a bit.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We had my time dining and had made reservations beforehand for 5pm each night so we were seated without much of a wait each night and had the same servers each night. The food was good, however service was slower than on past cruises and while the servers did a great job, they were not as attentive as past cruises. My kids enjoyed nightly pizza at Park Cafe and soft serve ice cream by the pool (tip - have the ice cream put in a cup and make your own soda float). There are 4 freestyle machines on the ship and typically at least one was not operational, had no ice or the flavor was not right so we would need to try a different one.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We played quite a bit ping-pong, however the the tables do not have a wall around them similar to the Oasis and we were often chasing balls around by the trash cans or into the solarium.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the 3 shows we attended.

Service and Staff

Ports of call

Bar Harbor, Maine

Booked the hiking tour excursion through RCL. The tour was only 12 people and included van transportation from the dock to Acadia National Park. We had a 15 minute stop at Thunder Hole to walk around and turn drove to the trail. Along the hike we stopped for pictures and to learn more about the area. Following the tour we were dropped off at the dock where we walked to shops and restaurants.

Portland, Maine

Booked a vintage fire truck tour independently. It was an easy walk to the tour meeting location. We enjoyed the hour tour of the city. Following the tour we ate lunch, had dessert at Holy Donut and shopped. We also took a ride on the Maine Gauge Railroad right next to the dock.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Beautiful waking path along the waterfront! We booked independently the Frog Hopper Tour which was interesting and then visited the Maritime Museum.

Saint John, New Brunswick

Walked around the waterfront and shopped at the container village right next to the dock.

Disembarkation

We carried our luggage off shortly after the gangway opened and were to our car in no time.
