Enchantment of the Seas

8 Night Bahamas (Baltimore Roundtrip)

Sail date: March 17, 2022

Ship: Enchantment of the Seas

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 2 years ago

Review summary

This was our third cruise post-covid and had more hiccups than our Seattle / Ovation cruise or our Tampa / Brilliance cruise. Next cruise is on Celebrity and we're hoping for customer service with a touch of class.

Embarkation

Quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was okay, but quickly became repetitious by mid-cruise. Bars actually ran out of many items by mid-cruise and their attempts to substitute the missing beers, wine, and liquors often resulted in drinks being returned. They even ran out of ice cream cones and chocolate soft-serve. We've been cruising since 1981 and have never experienced so many logistical challenges with food and beverages as we did on this cruise.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The Caribbean Mixology of Drinks in the Boleros Lounge was a fun activity. It cost $25 per person, and was a nice deviation from the over-used trivia and "sports games". This area could use an upgrade, but the Cruise Director and his crew seemed uninterested in providing passengers a true royal experience. The pools were good and the hot tubs small.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The headliners and ship's singers, dancers, and musicians were very good. Unfortunately no headliner show was offered on night one and the night after Cococay. When questioned as to their disappearance, we were told that the Cruise Director thought passengers too tired on these days and movies were substituted. This eight night cruise also did not offer the Love and Marriage Gameshow and we were told passengers would have to complain to Cruise Director Bobby to bring it back. We have had many energetic Cruise Directors who set high standards and bring guests a plethora of high quality entertainment. Unfortunately this is missing on the Enchantment of the Seas.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Most of the service crew were from India and Philippines. This ship went back in service in December. There seemed to be a disconnect between front line workers and management. Our room steward, Costa was excellent! Our dining room staff for the late main seating changed nightly during the first three nights. Our assistant waiter, Jose was the only constant and was great. George and Marvin in the Diamond Lounge we're fantastic and somehow managed to provide beverages other bars said were sold out. We were disappointed no officer, Next Cruise member or Loyalty Ambassador ever set foot in the Diamond Lounge to greet loyal customers.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
We really love the Vision Class and this was our fifth cruise on the Enchantment of the Seas. This elegant lady, however, is showing her age and could use some TLC. We stayed in a junior suite and found it comfortable.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Comfortable room but furnishings are showing their age. Most junior suites are located below the pool deck, so expect some of noise. If you are a light sleeper, the eighth floor may be too noisy for you.

Ship tip

The Viking Crown Lounge is quiet during the days and offers excellent sea views. Great place to read or play a board game.

Ports of call

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

3 out of 5
A water park on an island. Best suited for the under 18 crowd. I remember the original unspoiled island and prefer it to the ever developing island.

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
Stayed on the ship. A NASA visit, which we previously did, would be good option.

Charleston, South Carolina

3 out of 5
Walked around on our own. Pretty town with a lot of history.

Baltimore, Maryland

3 out of 5
Easy port to access. Good parking at terminal for $15 per night. Three year old Courtyard by Marriott hotel across the street. Very nice accomodations and offers cruise parking options. Several restaurants in walking distance of hotel including LP Steamers which was delicious. Safe area of the city.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

3 out of 5
Not much to offer. Much of the island is still recovering from the hurricane three years ago.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fast and easy.
