Review summary

The ship itself was a bit disappointing based on our past experiences with Royal Caribbean. I was extremely impressed with the medical facility, doctor and nurse!!! Competent, caring and correct in their actions!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Chops grill was exceptional. Dining room food on first two nights was not particularly good ("grilled chicken breast" was a dry flat patty about the size of a deck of cards, the quality of which you might find on a sandwich at a fast food restaurant. Windjammer was variable.

Chop's Grille

5 out of 5

Delicious food, great surroundings and view, wonderful servers.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Great if you like bingo and trivia.

Boutiques

1 out of 5

Forgot bow tie, studs and cummerbund. The ship didn't have any to rent (as on other ships) nor any in gift shop. Ended up buying a regular tie and some stud earrings and making them. I suspect we aren't the first folks who have forgotten these items.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
bands were variable and too loud. the configuration of the ship makes the sound go up many floors, including the guest service desk. Unable to conduct business there when music on due to volume.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Pleasant helpful staff. Medical staff was exceptional.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Clean interior. Prefer other ships with promenade. As above the central open area made it too noisy.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Our balcony cabin felt small and having the bed close to the door did not make for an efficient layout. Our balcony had EXTENSIVE rust. I've never seen this on a RCCI ship in past. Our balcony door handle/lock was broken, was loose and would not lock. The railing had lost its varnish and was dry and cracked. The bed was extremely hard, hard enough that the couch was more comfortable and didn't give a backache. Again, the room was clean, but the balcony needed work. This is not RCCI's usual quality.

Ship tip

Wait until it has gone to dry dock before booking this one.

Disembarkation

At the end of the cruise we had a medical issue and left the ship by ambulance. The Medical and general staff was extremely efficient and helpful. Cannot say enough good things about the experience.

Hopefully she'll be refurbished before she starts sailing out of Baltimore.

In all fairness short of a drydock it is tuff to fix/repaint balconies because no one wants to loose access to it durring cruise.

Yeah the rust looks pretty bad. I'm sure it's scheduled to be painted soon. I wouldn't doubt though it had been painted within the last couple months. The sea really makes things rust fast..... Hope your medical emergency turned out as well as it could have.
