Some very high points and some quite low points. Good choice for a weekend booze cruise on a tight budget, if you want to lay by the pool. Not a great choice if you are looking for the kind of experience shown in RCL website and sales brochures.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Smooth, preregistered so getting on the ship was smooth
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Only ate in the Windjammer as we were traveling with our grandchildren. Staff were very friendly and helpful (especially Carlos). Food was plentiful and beyond expectations for quality.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
RCL ads show slides and all sorts of fun activities and adventure possibilities. Ship has pools crowded with huing over "hen party" guests., overpriced arcade -- think $3/game. Quite a let down.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Good, but dated. Comedian was very funny to people over 60. Very funny jokes about rabbit ear antennas on TV's. My grandkids were clueless.
Children's Programs
We did not use this service.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Mariruth our steward was wonderful. Carlos is the windjammer is a jewel.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Clean, but dated. This is a 22 year old ship which is probably ready for the day cruise out of Miami market.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Adequate. Kept very clean but not at the same standard as new cruise ships.
Ship tip
Buyer beware. RCL changed our itinerary 1 week before the cruise. No Coco Cay, went to Freeport which is a port substitute compared to what they show in the brochures. I bought 3 excursions. All 3 canceled by RCL -- port change, timing change, water conditions
Nassau has been hit by hard times. Did not buy a RCL excursion. For half the price arranged our own visit to Atlantis. Cab ride is $4/person. Toured the world class aquarium -- well worth a visit.
Industrial port not close to a beach. Shopping in the port is solely for cruisers. Real disappointment of this cruise was RCL handling of excursions. After the itinerary change, I booked a 3 1/2 Freeport tour in the morning and glass bottom boat tour at 2:30 in the afternoon. They changed the time of the glass bottom boat tour to noon and canceled my city tour. Then they canceled the glass bottom boat tour. Nothing to do in a quite crumby port. They did refund the cost of the tours, that really is not the same. The tour representative ( woman from Spain) could not have cared less. We ended up playing way over priced bingo $70 for less than 30 minutes of play.
Yes, there is quite s difference between the 20 year old ships, & the newest huge floating amusement parks. Old ship 3000 guests, new ship 6000 guests. As we have learned over the years you have to do your research on what amenities a ship has. We are 61 & 55 so prefer a smaller ship . Don’t want or expect to be constantly entertained, We are about relaxation & visiting the ports to go exploring & try local cuisine. I can understand your disappointment with the port changes & excursion cancelations. I was concerned about our western caribbean cruise last October when we needed to skirt around hurricane Michael on the way to Roatan.
The crew did a fantastic job of keeping the ship safe and away from the rough seas.
We do a lot of research before our cruse to plan our island adventures and would not be happy if ports get changed / canceled.
We will be on this ship for the 1st time for 10 days in October. I am looking forward to getting to learning a new RC ship. Don’t give up on RC , we have done several RC cruises & have always enjoyed the Cruise 😎
