Fantastic Getaway by Justlovecruisin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We booked this 5-day 'get-a-away' to celebrate our 38th anniversary. the port was within driving distance, it occurred over my week-long break from school, and just fit all our needs. Also, it was a Princess cruise, which we always cruise on, and would give me a break away from young children, as I am an elementary school teacher. Even though this was over a holiday, we had been on 3 holiday cruises previously, and they basically the same...mostly adults and a few children. Nope. There were a large number of families, with kids, and totally unlike any other Princess cruise we'd been on, and this was our 9th. Happily, the children were very well behaved (for the most part) and the elevator tag got old early on, lol. So for a different cruising experience, with more family and child related activities, and a lot of children everywhere, we still had a great time. The only thing that was really something I would like to see change - and I know it will be for the Emerald's next dry dock - is the absence of hand washing stations. I've really come to like those. The food was good (even if the buffets could have had a wider selection), the service fantastic, and overall I would recommend this ship and destination. I will add that we have been to Cabo many times, so we never even got off the ship. So nothing to report for excursions or even the site.

Great get-away! by gailann1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was a difficult Cruise for me as it was my first cruise since my husband passed away. Each night in the Michelangelo dining room the hostess would say, “only three?“ or “Just 3 tonight?” I know I am overly sensitive right now but that really broke my heart. Please advise your staff not to use “just or only” as that implies someone is missing. I spoke with the maître d’ about it on night four. He was very empathetic and said he would make sure it didn’t happen on night five. On night five the host appropriately asked, “How many?” We were about to be escorted upstairs when the hostess said she would seat us. She brought us to a 6 top table. As we were sitting down she said to the server, “There are only three of them.” Evidently she didn’t get it.

Our 50th Wedding Anniversary would have been perfect if we had gotten the Cabin with an outstanding view that was shown on website & what we had paid for. We decided to pay the extra for a balcony room since it was 28 days long. Total disappointment! by LifetimeCruisin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: South Pacific

For the most part our cruise was wonderful. Our cabin steward was wonderful and most servers and others were great. Food was great with many choices. However, we chose a balcony room and paid a much higher price for it so we were very disappointed in the obstructed view we received. We could have saved a lot of money with an ocean-view cabin. We are still waiting on a response from Princess which will determine if we go on another Princess Cruise. We have been on many cruises are Platinum with NCL & have never had a balcony with a steel wall railing. So disappointing!

Fabulous Tahiti Cruise by discovery2222

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: South Pacific

Great cruise......Entertainment was fantastic.....Crew and service staff were excellent. Only negative was the food in the dining room. Quality of the food has deteriorated thruout the years. Everything else onboard was great. We would(and probably will)do this cruise again. Everyone we met onboard were friendly and we met some new, good friends

Dated interior. Crew was very attentive and polite as expected from Princess we found that we couldn’t ever find the the golf simulator as others had the same issue. Actually enjoyed this short cruise to LA from Vancouver

Enjoyed the cruise - much older group than I expected - average age looks like mid 70s. by TurboFlex

Enjoyable cruise, older population onboard, great food & service - was lacking in entertainment. Internet was problem throughout cruise - slow or non existent, did not get the package I paid for months before the trip - said it was no longer available.

Love Emerald as first ship... by cbarber

Sail date: /
Ship: Emerald Princess

Love Emerald as first ship we sailed on in 2014 and sailed on her a second time in October 2018 to Hawaii. We usually book balcony but decided to try interior this time as few cold days each way sailing out of Vancouver. Really liked the darkness of the interior for great sleeps and cannot beat those Princess beds! We discovered Adagio lounge on Deck 16 above retreat aft pool was a nice quiet place to read during the day in cooler days. We got to aft pool early on warmer days and enjoyed that as well. MDR food for dinner was very good along with the service. Preferred buffet for breakfast due to choice. The atrium and International Cafe also a great spot to have an Americano and treat while people watching or listening to performers / one of our favorite was the two young ladies on electronic violins who played beautifully. Discovered the Waldorf salad in the International Cafe this time and it was delicious! Can’t go wrong in a Princess cruise 🚢

Seasick most of the time - not worth the time spent. by TLeela

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Hawaii

please make sure you bring medication for sea sickness. 10 days on the boat towards & from hawaii with limited activites was a waste of time. the boat was too rocky to swim, the weather was too cold to sunbathe. once on the hawaiian islands, you only get 1/2 days in most ports, and even then, there is not much to do on the island itself. you spend most of the time waiting for a shuttle or a taxi to get you to destinations. What they should do is scrap the 1/2 day ports and spend more time in Honolulu instead - where it is more toursity and you get more time to explore the island.

Amazing first cruise!! by Ltlmrs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Hawaii

Being our first cruise, we did not know what to expect, but it took only until dinner to start feeling comfortable with the experience. We met many lovely people (passengers and crew), had the most relaxing vacation, and saw four beautiful islands.

Well the Hawaiian Cruise was... by canuckster

Sail date: /
Ship: Emerald Princess

Well the Hawaiian Cruise was amazing, crew were hit and miss. The Da Vinci dining was a culinary delight! The Horizon food court was not the best selection was minimal. Our cabin Steward was always available and our room was kept nicely. We look forward to our next Cruise with Princess Cruise lines, the islands were amazing scenic and warm.

We had a fantastic cruise.... by adedroff

Sail date: /
Ship: Emerald Princess

We had a fantastic cruise. Considering it was our first cruise and we selected a 15day cruise, we loved it. Yes I admit it I now have the bug. We had two small hiccups but that did not stop us from having a good time. The meals we fantastic, one or two meals we not that great but out of 15 days, I wouldn't complain. With 3000 people on board we still found quiet spots for ourselves. Line ups we not too bad. Embarkation took 35 minutes from front door to entering the ship. Got straight to our room at 12:30 luggage arrived by three. Disembarkation took 12 minutes. Entertainment was ok. Only complaint was the push on Art sales and Eafy. Excursions were good, except the luau was too commercialized in Honalulu. My favorite Island Kauai, such a beautiful island.
