Review summary

Overall, we recommend both the Emerald Princess and also this itinerary. We had a fabulous time and really enjoyed the trip! The Panama Canal is a "must see" for any traveler and Princess does it right

Embarkation

A slight delay in San Pedro, but over-all was okay

Ship experiences

We had Traditional early dining at 5:15 in the Botticelli - it was great - very attentive staff. We also ate at SHARE (excellent) and Planks (Good)

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were good but crowded, Movies under the Stars were great, enjoyed the Trivia shows

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Enjoyed a comedian and impressionist

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room steward was good, waiters were excellent. I was not impressed with the Shore Excursion personnel or Front Desk people.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship had just come out of dry-dock and was very clean - new areas very nice. layout is somewhat confusing.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
This mini-suite was very comfortable and clean. Two flat-screens on the walls. lots of outlets. Bed was comfy. Sofabed and table and chair. lots of closet space.

Ship tip

Use the International Cafe for coffee

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

I love it as I live nearby and was able to Uber to the port.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Been here before. Our excursion "City Highlights" was very poor. They left us on a hot side street for 30 minutes while the tour guide and a few pax went shopping. Complained to Princess

Huatulco, Mexico

4 out of 5
It's okay - lots of resorts and not much town, as it's a new city

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

5 out of 5
we did not do an excursion here - just tendered into town & were pleasantly surprised. We found the city to be quite nice & we found a craft brewhouse here (Nica Beer)

Puntarenas, Costa Rica

4 out of 5
We were over TWO HOURS getting off the ship due to poor planning by Princess. Our excursion, Scarlet Macaw sanctuary was good - enjoyed it.

Fuerte Amador, Panama

5 out of 5
Tender port - we took excursion to see the P.C. Museum, old city and army base. It was pretty good - tour guides were excellent.

Panama Canal Transit

5 out of 5
Highlight of the trip!! Well-narrated on ship- this was the Emerald-s first time going through the P.C. - we found it fascinating and really enjoyed the full transit which took all day! AWESOME!

Cartagena, Colombia

5 out of 5
A wonderful "old city" we took the tour that included the fortress (steep climb), and the cathedral as well as the old city (lots of street vendors) It was a great tour & guide.

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Great disembarking - we were out of there quickly!

Great review! Thank you. We were on the Emerald recently and loved her. And we'll be doing this same itinerary (only reversed) in December. I'm curious if they added hand-washing stations outside the buffet when she was in dry dock? That was my only disappointment with the ship, but thought they may do that with the older ships as they are dry/wet docked.
