Review summary

First cruise and had some good experiences and one really bad one. While the murder was not Princess's fault-the way they handled it was not the best. Security too slow to respond. There didn't appear to be a Plan B for the time we were held in port. Spent a lot of money (flew in from the East Coast) and felt like I lost the biggest part of my trip, Tracy Arm and Discovery Whale Watching. Great time with family though.

Embarkation

Fine.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Buffet was just not good period. Food was pretty, but mostly tasteless. The seating was even worse. If you left your table to go back for something it was instantly cleared and someone else was there. The nights that were dedicated to a particular country were very disappointing. Crown grill was good, but no better than any decent steak house. While I did not go to Share the rest of my family did. They were very unhappy with that experience. All of 8 of them vowed to never go back.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
This is only in regards to the naturalist on board and her lectures. While her stories were interesting, I did not expect to be subjected to her political views. I wanted to go on a vacation and leave the world of politics behind that however was not to be. Bitterly disappointed in an activity I had been so looking forward to, Spa-Massage was great. Just wish there had been no sales effort at end of massage. My masseuse was fabulous. Knowledgeable and very professional.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Thought the performers did well.

Children's Programs

While there were 2 10 year olds with us, I don't have children so this really doesn't apply to me.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Waiters attentive and personable. Room Steward was another story. Several of my requests were overlooked. I thought the towel animals were part of the experience--maybe I was misinformed. My 10 year old great niece was my room mate, and I think she would have gotten a real kick out of them.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Common areas were well maintained and I rarely saw anyone working. The staff were like magic elves in that regard.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Bigger than I had anticipated. Loved the balcony. Beds were very comfy.

Ship tip

Security responds slowly.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
Loved Seattle. Had great weather. Did the Space needle, Pike's Market, Harbor Tour, and got to see the Terra Cotta Warriors. Pike's was my least favorite place, as it was so very crowded.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
Loved my trip, and my excursion. Did a "Kayaking with the Orcas" trip. Great guide. No Orcas.

Juneau, Alaska

2 out of 5
Supposed to have gone through Tracy Arm Fjords and we didn't. Bitter disappointment. Should have just stayed in an interior room but I had upgraded to a balcony for the view. We were in port for due to an incident on the ship for most of the day. My whale watching excursion was cancelled. All I saw of Juneau was literally 35 minutes at the Mendenhall Glacier park.

Skagway, Alaska

4 out of 5
Skagway was fun. Walked the town. Did the Train ride to the Yukon. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
Victoria is beautiful. People are very nice. Ate lunch at Murchies Tea Room and recommend it. Rented a vehicle that seated 8 and got a tour of the city on the way to the Buchardt Gardens. The Gardens are gorgeous.

Disembarkation

Good. A little uncomfortable having my luggage outside the door of my room that night, but it all worked out.

So sad someone's daughter, possible sister, possible mother was taken away from those that loved her at the hands of the person you should trust the most. Put yourself in the shoes of this woman's family and I'm sure you wouldn't want ANY part of the investigation to be disrupted at the expense of someone vacation. (I know it was expensive and you feel you lost the biggest part of your cruise) BUT........ this woman's family was destroyed and will NEVER recover from the loss. I personally would want EVERYTHING done possible to make the case against her husband so strong that he rots in prison for the rest of his life as I'm sure you would also if it were your family member

I am sure you know by now, but the discovery of the murder, location of the ship, and maritime laws all contributed to the delay. Hopefully on your next cruise, everyone behaves themselves.

it is what it is...make the best you can of a bad situation!

The F-B-I took control of the ship. I appreciate that your vacation was interupted but a woman was murdered. Not sure there is ever a "good" way to handle that, especially when the ship is being controlled by the federal authorities. Perhaps you could sue the bastard that murdered his wife.
