Review summary

Everyone we talked to on board was dissatisfied with the cruise in several ways, several said they would never be back, some said that since they last cruised it had gone down a lot. Some said that they thought Princess had come down to the carnival level of cruise ship. We found not one person who was even just happy with their cruise. Does not bode well for Princess in the future if they wish to maintain that superior image they have enjoyed in the past. We will try another line next year when we cruise again

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very well organized, excellent

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The buffets were horrible The main dinning rooms were great one time in seven days, good about 50% of the time and everything from poor to cold food at least 50% of the time.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Most everything onboard the ship was aimed at removing as much money as possible from the passengers. I understand that there is a need to run an efficient business, but to constantly hustle the passengers to the point of being just plain irritating is absurd. This gentleman that calls himself Texas Todd is lying his ass off. I am retired, have 35 years experience in the world he claims to be an "expert" in, and tells how great he is, and how great the stores are he is pushing the people to visit are. I find it funny that most of these stores are only open when the ships are there and have no locations other than the cruise destinations. Their guarantee specifically excludes returns when the cruise customers return home to find out they paid way to much. Just for fun my wife and I priced one bracelet in five of the cruise stores in different ports of call as well as on board ship we negotiated with each store and received five different prices range $800.00 to $1,395.00 all told us it was worth over $3,000.00 and all said it was below their cost, also a lie. at home in the department store it was a $500.00 price range item.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
We saw one better than average show, a young lady by the name Kelly I believe. She was a female vocal impressionist. Outstanding, I guess one out of five is all to expect today.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Room stewards great, could not have been better. Waiters not so much.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Somewhat out dated I think, but well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
suffice to say it was adequate

Ship tip

Never let them talk you into the "any time dinning" it sucks, it is the cruise ships way to run you all over the damn ship to try to find where you are having your next meal and make you settle for the not so good buffet. Most of the excursions can be bought right after you get off the ship, on the dock for a lot less money. The cruise ship adds a nice markup to what you can buy for yourself.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

Ketchikan, Alaska

OK, Yes the duck, it was half price on shore right off the boat.

Juneau, Alaska

4 out of 5
Good, Yes, see below.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Fine, yes it was half price from the ships price for the same excursion.

Victoria, British Columbia

3 out of 5
great, yes see above.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very good, well organized.

I was on this cruise the week of July 23 when there was an onboard murder. In addition to your comments about the bad food and terrible entertainment, Princess offered very little compensation for the 2 key ports that we missed. We were given an onboard credit of $150 and a 25% future cruise credit. I'm tentatively booked on a January cruise and they are only giving me a 12.5% credit of what I paid for my Alaska cabin. Their customer service is serving the interests of Princess and not their guests.

In the last year we have been on 12 cruises with three different lines Holland, Royal Caribbean and Princess. Princess has the best Customer service. The best food and the best room stewards.

Your opinion is as useless as fake news.

We cruised on the Emerald last year and the entire trip was fabulous! We were on the Star to Alaska this past May and every day was absolutely amazing. Yes, some things may not have been perfect, but nothing is. We're sailing the Regal next year and have absolutely no concerns that it will be anything but great! Beth

We cruised on the Regal Princess March 2016. We had a wonderful trip. Most of the crew was top notch. We stayed in a penthouse suite and it was nice and roomy. Food was spectacular, probably the best in comparison to other cruises we've been on. My only thing that needs improving was activities.

I think you're my kind of cruisers, Kate25...

yeah, 2 years ago we went on the Golden Princess 10 day Alaskan cruise. I read some reviews like this and it scared me. we went and it was great. Glad I didn't listen to the negatives.

I believe what would be wrong with it is having some negative cruisers aboard. I don't pay any more attention to posts like this than I do when people say not to cruise, that it's not fun and dangerous (overcrowded, food poisoning, pirates, etc). We have cruised the Emerald and will be on her a couple of weeks after you. It's OUR attitude that will create the magic, not listening to other people who have their feelers out for reasons to complain...

I'm cruising on the Emerald in November. Would love to hear what was so wrong with it.

Well, kind of rabenton. It's not Carnival Cruise Line, it's Carnival Corporation and plc, who owns Princess, like they own Carnival Cruise Line, Costa, Cunard, Holland America, and others. My apologies if it seems like I'm nit picking your input...

rabenton    7 years ago

Carnival cruises owns Princess I am told. Examples of what was bad. Some people would complain if they were hung with a new rope?

Dutch3901    7 years ago

This post is useless, in my opinion. It's full of "everyone we talked to", "several said", "some said", "we found not one person", etc. Did you just spend your time hunting for disgruntled passengers? You provide no examples, just that you found others who shared your opinion...I would ask for details but it just appears to me that you are a habitual griper and chronic complainer. I'll bet you were fun to be around... (BTW- we really enjoy Princess...)

You need to specify exactly in what aspects the quality went down??!? I cruised on Regal Princess last year and it was best experience ever on a luxury ship
