Great family vocation by yanchunl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This is our first family cruise!  It is also our first Disney cruise, no comparison with other lines. We had a great time, the staff are very nice and we enjoy the entire trip.  Kids are so excited for the club activities and we wish they could enjoy more views.

Not Worth the Exorbitant Cost by MelC81

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We brought our 11 month old and 3 year old on this cruise thinking that our 3 year old would love it.  Boy were we wrong.  She did not want to play in the clubhouse or the kids' rooms -- and neither would we.  They are dimly lit, dingy, and have screens everywhere.  Most people do not want to pay so much money to have their kids watch TV or play video games all day.  The infant room was sad too.

The food was mediocre at best, but the worst part is that a crew member tries to sell your child a cheap cup during most dinners and when you politely decline, and your child accepts your answer, they still put the blinking cup in your child's face, begging them to take it.  No thanks.  We do not need a $10 cup worth fifty cents that will end up in the trash.  But at least be respectful of the parents' wishes.

The last night of our trip, their was a fire on the ninth floor on our side of the ship, and at 3:45 AM, we were awoken by a terrible smell of burning rubber.  Our girls were woken up too by the smell, two loud announcements were made over the intercom that a fire was put out, and then, our girls could not go back to sleep.  By the time it was breakfast, they fell asleep at the table and could not eat anything.  Then we had to have a long day of traveling back to our home, which included buying breakfast for the girls at the airport, and a very cranky toddler and infant.  Disney would not even reimburse us for the amount of breakfast or make any accommodation for the fact that our room smelled of smoke the last evening and we couldn't sleep.

I wouldn't recommend this cruise.  You save your money to go on vacation. Not to be tortured.

Part of my rating is... by bbarnett

Sail date: /
Ship: Disney Wonder

Part of my rating is probably based on the cruise we took. I think you could take a tug up to Alaska and enjoy the trip. The Wonder was scheduled for refurbishment the following year after we were on it so I didn't know what to expect. Our room was quite literally brand new. I guess they were refurbing it while at sea prior to going in for the real deal later. We were in a Navigator room. It was perfect for Alaska because of the extra shelter the balcony has. If I had to ding them it would be for the subpar food and servants. It was obvious this was their training cruise since it was the 2nd cruise of the Alaskan season. Cabin crew and entertainment crew were excellent though. We would do it again and again.

Short fun trip. by kellisday

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Enjoyed the short trip. Took this cruise because it was the first cruise for my wife and she wasn't sure if she'd get sea sick. She did great and we've gone on many cruises since. It is a good "experimental" cruise. They do need more options for dinning.

Disney cruise by margolinlois

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

It was the best way to travel with 8 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 years to 11 years.  There was something for everyone to do 24/7.  The children's experience was above our expectations.  Even though the initial cruise was slightly more expensive than other cruise lines, in the end I believe it was more economical in that everything was included:  kids' club activities, soft drinks, ice cream, etc.  The safety measures were excellent and we could keep track of the kids' locations at all times.

The staff was extremely courteous and helpful.  The attention to the children's needs was excellent.  The waiters brought the children's meals right away so that they were kept busy while the adults enjoyed relaxed dining.

The ship was very clean and comfortable.

The swimming pools are very small and were extremely crowded.  This was a negative as all 8 children and the adults complained about this.  Also, the food was just OK.  I don't expect gourmet food on cruises, but the seasonings could have been better.  There was plenty of variety - just lacking in flavor.

Also, there should be more activities for boys.  With the emphasis on "The Disney Princesses" the boys felt somewhat left out.

The entertainment was the best we have seen on any cruise line and we have sailed with Princess, Celebrity and Norwegian in the past.  The actors had marvelous voices and were accomplished dancers.  The productions were first rate.

Castaway Cay, Disney's private island, was marvelous.  Again, the food was plentiful, but below average.  However, the beach chairs, towels, water activities, location of bathrooms, slides, etc. were amazing.  What fun!

I highly recommend a Disney cruise for anyone who is traveling with a multi-generational family.  It was very relaxing, fun and amazing to watch the children's reactions to all the various activities on board.

Excellent Spring Break Cruise by bgreene4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This is an excellent cruise to take with your family during Spring Break.  There are a lot of activities to keep the kids busy.  The rooms have high quality beds and linens.  The dining experience was five stars for break, lunch, and dinner.  It is a nice cruise for people who do not have kids as well.  There are adult activities and areas dedicated as kid-free zones.  Four days was the perfect amount of time to feel like a true vacation.   It is worth it to plan this cruise in advance.  You may save some money!  Overall, this is a fantastic cruise, and I would not hesitate to rebook the Disney Wonder cruise.

Typical Disney but............ by Ericq8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Typical fashion of Disney great service with waitstaff at your dinners, very nice staterooms , BUT if you try and get a afternoon nap in good luck kids running around loud, parents just didnt do there job, also its hard to relax when the room next to you is being refurbished during the cruise , bang bang hammers nails dr oopping bixes taking off doors really during a cruise it sucked workers 7 am to 6ish every day . Bar staff really good. When it comes to cruiselines you would think the Buffet would be out of this world . Well not on the Wonder. Lets start by saying very small and very limited food . There was no international food selection, no crepe stations no fresh juice stations . The restaurants were very good staff was great and very personable.

On the decks god forbid you want to relax on the adult area that isnt happening since the wait staff constantly nags you to get drinks in 22 min 9 times asked . Give me a break.

The port of cozumel, very nice but very American in mexican style . Plenty to do with planned things from Disney, but if you walk the streets for good food and things to buy well have thick skin begging for money tip me i look like a statue is one thing the shops on the side streets avoid if your alone have someone to walk with and dont bring your kids. I was offered every illegal drug under the sun after they trying selling me fake cuban cigars . from oxi, weed, vicodin, heroin . Not fun if i wanted to haggle i would have stayed in china town. Disney should scrap cozumel.

Private island is just plan awesome water perfect staff again perfect buffet was again basic . nothing to eat for vegitarians , Not that i am one but people are these days . Why do you have to rent tubes for 10.25 thats just a money maker.

Comparing other crusies buffet food OUTSTANDING you name it they have it . Pool side other cruise lines have plenty of lounge chairs not this cruise Disney cruise never set up at 9 am 10 am you had to fend for yourself when getting a chair on upper area. Never had that problem on other lines.

Another great Disney Cruise by ableman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our second Disney cruise, which we booked while on our first Disney cruise. As previously stated, it was a great experience. I wanted to book another while on board, but financial constraints (Disney is expensive) and the fact that our daughter was ageing out of the "magical" Disney mystique, we decided to wait & look to the more mainstream lines like Carnival or RCL.

disappointed by goofylover

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our 2nd time on the Disney wonder. First time to Alaska was great which is why we came back again. But I don't think a 3rd is in our near future. We are a family of 5, our stateroom was cramped once the beds came down. My 4yr old daughter slept on the bed that came down from the wall, but the springs were broken near the foot of the bed, every time an adult sat on it it would sink further down. From our second night on, a repetitive clicking sound from the ceiling would not allow us to rest peacefully. They tried to fix it but unsuccessful. Then on the 4th night, water slowly leaked from the ceiling. Though that was fixed but I was not told why or what was leaking. Dining was ok but not as great as the first time in Alaska. I was disappointed this time that there was no character breakfast. To top it off, we couldn't get onto cast away island due to weather. An employee told me she wasn't surprised because it happens frequently. Financially, I don't think I'll ever risk it again. This was the biggest thing we were looking forward to. I understand safety is important, but some kind of credit or voucher would have been nice.

Very good experience on this cruise! by layner

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We enjoyed this cruise; the Disney staff and crew are excellent!  They are "100%".

Our disappointment was the fact that we were not able to get off at Castaway Cay.  This is our favorite port.  A friend cruised with Disney not too long ago, and they were not able to disembark there, either.  I understand the weather is what it is, but it's too bad the port entry can't be improved to allow for easier entry, or maybe the use of tenders?  There was plenty to do onboard, though.

My daughter remarked that the staff in the children's club/lab, the "Youth Team", was not as friendly as the rest of the staff.  Our dining room server, and room attendant, were "awesome", and she didn't feel the same about the youth staff.  Nonetheless, she had fun with the activities she chose.

The food is outstanding.  Each meal feels like a dinner in a 5 star restaurant.  When my mom asked the maître d' if bread pudding or crepes were served in any of the dining rooms, he had some specially prepared for her.  The staff go above and beyond in almost every way.

We'll be back for more Disney cruises.  If you cruise during "low season" (Jan-Feb-March), it is a very good value considering the meals, etc, are all included.

Horrible weather ruined my cruise by KaseyB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

After taking a cruise on the Dream in September, I was totally excited to do this cruise from Miami. But flying into Miami and getting onto the ship is not as easy as it is from MCO/Port Canaveral.  I was also struck by how old the ship looked.  The Wonder is over 10 yrs old but wow. I saw rust outside our window and the room was not pristine, like I was expecting from my previous three Disney cruises!  Plus the adult pool was looking rundown.

The staff also seemed to be the "B" team. I had a good experience with the head server but we had communication challenges with the servers and the whole cruise was very multilingual.  Mainly it was geared towards spanish-speaking guests.  Which is fine if I had known that... it was a bit of an unwelcome surprise to find that out when we got there.

Also, the weather was horrible.  I never get seasick, but we ended up taking dramamine every day just to get through it.  We didn't even get to dock on Castaway Cay and I cannot tell you how disappointed I was. I LOVE Castaway Cay. I will always remember watching the ship sail away from the dock after trying twice to get in, and I am still in disbelief.  It's YOUR island, Disney! Make it happen at any cost!  The tender from Georgetown was insane going back to the ship because it was storming and the waves were super high. I honestly thought we were going to capsize.

Over all, just skip the January sail dates. It can be chilly and the weather not nice. And if you have a choice, try the newer ships.  The smaller size is nice, but overall the bigger ones will be way more fun.

Disney Wonder-ful Cruise by DisneyWonder

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was a Disney-perfect 4-day cruise that I would recommend highly.  The ports of call, the food, and the crew exceeded all my expectations.  Of course, the weather contributed to make this cruise truly memorable.  Select the time of year you feel the weather will be pleasant and let the rest unfold naturally.

Beyond Expectations!! by arminemartin4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We traveled with a group of 9 of us, all being first time cruisers. We range in age from 16 months to 48 years old. Not a sinlge person had a bad experience! The staff works extremely hard, they went above and beyond to meet our needs. There was so many things to do you hardly sat down! There was food galore! Not to mention the 3 meals they prepare, there was free room service, quick service meals, unlimited ice cream, all the coffee and soda you could drink! Beer and other spirits were fairly priced. Again I can not stress enough thestaff was amazing!

Great first experience. by marinerpetrea

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Fabulous. We are a couple traveling with no children. There were numerous things to do,and nice quiet places to be where there no children. We hated Nassau. The people were extremely harassing. As a result, we turned around and went right back onto the ship where we enjoyed a beautiful day by the pool.
