Review summary

I would do this one again. This after we SWORE never to repeat an itinerary.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
organized, smooth, no hassles, there were lines, of course, but they moved quickly

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the main dining room was good, not great. I expected better. I can't really complain, but it appeared ordinary to me. The service was first rate, though, and the medallion system they used (big brother IS watching) made the experience even better.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
same old same old. I didn't see anything new or exciting, but I was there to relax and THAT I could do. The fitness center was excellent.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Best I've ever seen. The ship's "house" singers and dancers put on two amazing shows. They had a magician who recycled some tired tricks I've seen a million times before (and I LOVE to be mystified) but the Billy Joel and Elton John shows were excellent and the two reviews were the best I've seen.

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
As good as I've had anywhere. I used to use Celebrity as the standard for great service but the staff on the Discovery Princess was as good, if not better.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
It's a new ship. Who can complain?

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We struggled to open and close the balcony door, otherwise the cabin was well laid out and comfortable and the bed was great. There is a design flaw in that our cabin was WAY forward and you had to walk nearly to mid-ship to get to the other side (we were traveling with another couple and chose cabins one on port and one on the starboard side to maximize glacier watching; we though we would be able to walk around the front of the ship from port to starboard. you can't.

Ship tip

get a cabin somewhat close to the elevators.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

5 out of 5
Not really a port. the ship did a driveby and it was an amazing way to wake up. We hauled up to the 18th deck and took lots of pictures.

Juneau, Alaska

We did a whale watching cruise. five stars.

Sitka, Alaska

4 out of 5
It's OK, and an interesting place to kick back, drink some suds and enjoy the cool weather.

Victoria, British Columbia

Go to the gardens; they're amazing. We had dinner on the water, the people were super friendly.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The most organized disembarkation we've experienced. EVER. We were off the ship and had our luggage in less than half an hour.
