Fabulous Trip by Michael5

Sail date: /
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

This ship has it all and were it not overbooked by some 485 passengres is a dream. Apparently this happens every year at the end of the year because lots more families book for the Christmas/New Year cruise.

Fabulous first cruise experience by neonbubble

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

This was our first cruise - indeed, our first holiday outside the country together - and was for our honeymoon, chosen for the itinerary, not the ship or company of which we had no prior knowledge. We'd booked the cheapest cabin (an inside), figuring we wouldn't spend much time in there (which turned out be true) but everything far exceeded our expectations. We were by some way the youngest on board and soon discovered that nearly the entire ship was deserted of other passengers by the middle of the evening; this left us to wander around from bar to bar, checking out venues, having the run of the ship and exceptional service from the staff who would sometimes almost fight one another to serve us first. The Wake Bar was a great little discovery but we spent most of our time up in Skywalkers where the DJ would play anything we wanted as there was almost never anyone else around. The feeling of being the centre of attention especially at night was great but it carried through fabulously into the days as well as we'd often wander into a lounge, catch the eye of a waiter, and have our usual drinks brought over without any further interaction needed nor any need to present a cruise card because we were obviously so memorable. Ship's decor was great, service excellent, excursions fantastic; nothing could be faulted.

Not as expected by Jenny36678188

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Hawaii

This was my first cruise and from what all my friends said about cruises I couldnt wait! My first night at dinner the wait staff didnt bring my drink (a hot cup of tea) until half way thru the meal and when I asked for it a second time the waitress yelled at me that it was coming and then gave me a empty cup. The food was terrible thru out the cruise, when another couple at my table asked the staff about it they said they had a new chef. All the bread was rock hard. And the meat was over cooked. The one time I got room service, I asked if I had to sign for it and the gentleman said no. When I got home and looked at my credit card statement, he not only got the 15% the cruise add to the bill but he also tipped himself an extra $10. In the brochure it said we would be at a port until 6pm, but in the briefing for the port the cruise employees would tell you the last charter to the boat would be at 4pm. This happened at EVERY port! Thru out the cruise all I heard from fellow guest were complaints about this cruise. Do yourself a favor book a cruise from another company.

Great Cruise, Bad Food by CharleneK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This cruise was well organized as far as the itinerary goes. The stops were on time, the shore excursions were well-managed and proceeded without too much waiting in line. On board, however, the dining stood out as being very low quality. The good news is you can expect not to gain weight on this cruise. The entertainment was average and not much different from the last cruise I was on (the Royal Carribean).

Half/Half experience on ship by JanetC6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I loved the overall aspect of the trip to Alaska Inside Passage. The food and service was excellent in the buffet. The formal dining rooms food was disappointing. The coffee was not good some days. Our cabin steward was excellent and above anything we could ask. But the time on board at sea with not enough activities was really disappointing. Not enough movies in an otherwise empty theater during the days at sea. They showed two great movies on a day when in port. Not a good variety of activities to attend. Very large ship meant a lot of extra walking. The excursions were good and worthwhile and no complaints. Cleanliness of the whole ship was above excellent. If you want a laid back, stay in your room and relaxed atmosphere this would be a good trip. Shows were OK. Comedians were good. Scenery was fantastic.

Just a fantastic time by JimL8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise and it could not have been any better. From the moment we arrived to the time we left was just amazing. The staff were very helpful, the ship was beautiful, and the food in the dinning room was just incredible. Our only complaint was the fact that the pizza stand along with the ice cream closed so early in the day, I think 6:00 pm is way to soon. The late nite buffet was a big disapointment, not much to choose from and not very good. Overall though it was a fantastic time,

Super except for debarcation by BarbG4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Ship was very clean in all public areas. Attendants give you hand sanitizer alot which keeps down the concern of Norovirus. Sabatini's and Sterling Steakhouse were FABULOUS! Gym very nice and I was able to get the equipment I wanted when I wanted it. The only issue was cleanliness of my room: the rug in my room desparately needed vacuuming- found someone else's crumbs, earring back, and clothing tag- ugh!. The bedside tables had not been wiped off and had someone else's stickey coke residue that I had to clean up myself. Pictures in room and walls had crud from other people. Debarcation was a nightmare. We got to the airport at 8am- no luggage had been delivered. Finally started unloading it at 9:20am. By then, there were hundreds of people standing around a fenced off area trying to spot their luggage and shouting to 5 girls in high heels who were supposed to drag your luggage to you. Everyone was frantic trying to make their flights. I felt really sorry for the handicapped and older folks who almost got trampled in the mad dash. Surely Princess (who does this every year) must be able to find a better way to do things. It was a very sad end to a trip that was otherwise marvelous

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

Very well run, staff very attentive in all areas at all levels. Food was very good; ( loved it all but Lobster night was yum, yum ). Stateroom, balcony, better balcony chairs than on most Princess ships just about everything was GREAT!! Entertainment in Princess theater and other lounges very good. Been on 8 cruises, 7 with Princess, that speaks for itself.

Beautiful ship but lackluster service by SherylH1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

I have sailed 19 times and the Diamond Princess is the most exquisite ship I have ever been on. Having said that, my stateroom steward was a no show. I had a suite which lacked a lot of the amenities outlined on the website and had to ask the steward multiple times for things that should have been in the room. The buffet food was mediocre. We had been confirmed for first seating for 7 months, and upon arrival on the ship found that we had been assigned anytime dining. I immediately went down to the International Dining Room to speak with the Maitre D. You can no longer speak with the Maitre D, you speak with his "people". I was given no explanation for the mishap but was told to do anytime dining that night, and for sure by the next day everything would be taken care of. We ate in the Savoy Dining Room the first night; service was deplorable. I've had friendly service in a fast food drive thru. We did get our table changed by the next day. Princess has changed since the merger with Carnival. Before the head waiter and Maitre D would come by the tables everynight. The head waiter on this cruise stood at the entrance of the restaurant, I can't say he greeted people as he just stood there, and I never saw the Maitre D in the dining room, ever. The only time I saw him was at the Champagne Waterfall. The quality of the food is infereior to prior days. Our waitress performed her duties well, but lacked personality and that flair that Princess used to be known for. In fact, the overall staff seemed to just do their jobs, no one went out of their way to make us feel welcome or special, nor did we feel that anyone would care if we came back or switched to a different cruise line.

Wished the cruise was longer!!! by SuzieT

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

Beautiful, clean ship. Dining room food was good, desserts were incredible. Rooms were clean, but had a few vibrating, irritating noices at night. Earplugs would solve that issue. We brought 4 children ages 8 to 17. My 8 and 10 year olds didn't want to be checked out of kid's club. That tells me that they were having a fabulous time! We didn't even see the 14 year old during the days we were at sea. He loved this cruise.

A Beautiful Cruise! by KrisP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

Our family really enjoyed this this cruise! We found the staff on this ship really did a great job! Helpful and friendly. We enjoyed all of our dinners, the food was great! Most nights we ate at 6:30, just before dusk. We saw many dolphin playing in the ships wake. Really fun to see! (request a table next to a window) Puerto Vallarta was very nice. We did some shopping and checked out a few of the beach resorts! All very nice. In Mazatlan we also did some shopping and a tour around the coast. Very beautiful! Took a Taxi (oversized golf cart) into town ten dollars each way! Fun too! Cabo is one of our favorite places. Very scenic. We took the glass bottom boat tour, ten dollaes a person. Great deal. We saw many colorful fish as well as many sea lions they are so neat . They love to lay on the hot rocks and sunbathe. Casino was also fun! Slots were easy early in the week, later on slots became tight. One problem I had was the hot temps of the pool water. After sunbathing in 85/90 weather people need a way to cool down. Pools were very hot and people were complaining. It stayed that way all week. Our stateroom was cozy. The bathroom shower was very small. Closet space was great. Lots of space with a cabinet full of shelves and a full lenght mirror. Very nice. Also plenty of space under the bed for large suitcase storage. I really liked how careful they are about germs in the buffet lines. Kitchen staff dispence antibacterial wash into your hands before they give you a plate. Great idea Entertainment was alot of fun too we loved the Hypnotist show ( laughed until I cried) All shows were excellent! We sure had fun time!

The Diamond Princess is a Queen! by Js27314976

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Mexico

This was our first cruise and we were totally satisified Princess Cruises. The Diamond Princess is a remarkable vessel, most notably it's layout and the variety of lounges, pools, and restaurants on board. You can enjoy a wide open sunny poolside experience, or, if the sun's too much, go to a covered pool area with the same ocean view. The ship was clean and modern with great artwork and decor.
